as far as I'm concerned the Ukrainians need to overthrow their own corrupt gov after and if they can fend off Russia..
All of these donations of weapons and ammunition risk not getting to the people who need them because of corruption.

Ian announced on his YT channel that Headstamp Publishing was starting a crowdfunding campaign to publish "The Foreigner Group: Our War In Ukraine." It was a Swedish manuscript with lots of pictures. It would have been the first well-illustrated, fairly comprehensive look at what it's like for two modern infantries to clash in a semi-conventional war. The groups involved were essentially meeting as equals; this wasn't asymmetrical warfare at all. However, he was immediately inundated by folks pointing out that the author and his friends from Sweden had joined the Azov Battalion, a Ukrainian militia.

The problem was that the author, Carolus Löfroosm, is a well-established neo-Nazi and the Azov Battallion is basically a full-blown Nazi organization. We're talking all sorts of war crimes, insignia borrowed from the Third Reich, the whole nine yards.

Of course, they were the only ones with experience fighting Russians in a modern war with comparable equipment and with a completed book telling all about it. So if you want to learn what that's like, the only people who can tell you are some really evil guys.

Ian thought he could get the manuscript translated and publish the book as a non-political story of how war between first-world equals is fought today. That would be really valuable information for everyone right now.

Unfortunately, the author is such a well-known bad guy that people raised a massive stink. Publishing the book would have been like paying Hitler to write Mein Kampf. It didn't seem to matter to any of the people howling that there might be good information in the book; the author would be making money and since the author was so evil, the book project had to die.

Ian was inundated with pushback. He posted a second video the same day trying to make the case that the book was non-political. It was intended to give people an idea what fighting a war is like when modern forces clash.

It didn't work. He still got lots and lots of pushback.

He ended the day by releasing a third video saying the book project was now dead.

These days, there are probably uncountable analysts with various intelligence outfits all over the world that would like to read that book. But they're outta luck.

ETA: I can't find a copy of video #3 from that day. Forgotten Weapons seems to want them all to just disappear. However, the first video announcement and the second video clarification have been republished by another channel. I doubt they'll stay up too long but if you're interested, they're here:

Thanks. It struck a chord with me because I had seen something similar in the coin collecting world many years ago. There was a book that everyone accepted as the reference bible for a particular American coin. Everybody had a copy. Then the author was arrested and convicted for molesting young boys.

There was a huge dust-up among coin collectors. Some folks were pragmatic; since the book was already written and had good information, why not continue to use it? Other folks went to full-blown virtue signalling, advocating that everyone burn their copy and refuse to do business with any dealer who sold or used the book.

I fell in the pragmatic camp. Ian's situation was a bit tougher and I can't decide if he made the right call. However, I'd also argue that the point will probably be rendered moot when some defense-related specialty book publisher who sells small run references for exorbitant prices picks it up and publishes it.

Its why they cant be trusted to keep their word to defend a nation that disarmed... their word is only as good as the current situation
