If these are truly separatist regions that want to be reunited with Russia…should we intervene?

Counterpoint: let’s say Pelosi, Shumer, and Biden announce ‘most Americans wish to re-join the commonwealth’ and ask the Brits to bring their .mil over to help make that happen. Should we roll over and let that happen?

I’m not advocating WWIII (which is funny considering how apeshit the world when when Trump smoked that Iranian dude in Iraq) but the US is still the world’s only superpower and leading democracy. Failing to provide moral support to fledgling democracies who, less than forty years ago were raising their own Armies of the Potomac, says the free world is adrfit.

It would be good to remember our Independence and tumultuous period after. Especially that period around 1812.

if you buy that, I’ve got some ocean front property in AZ.

Watched a clip of a couple of Ukrainian politicians get in a fist fight on a Ukrainian television show this morning on crowder while arguing over whether or not Ukraine should rejoin Russia or not, so I’d say there is at least some sentiment in the country to rejoin.

    I guess it depends.

Are we just giving back the liberal shithole states that want to go back? I mean, I don’t really care for California or New York anyways.

I would be thrilled to give them back NY, CT, MA, RI, and probably a few others. Make them take CA and IL, too.

There are Russian speaking enclaves in Ukraine--apparently, in the east. Many living there DO want to be part of Russia, but their EU/NATO-friendly central government will not let them. So Russia plans to "free" them, and will destroy Ukraine's government if they interfere.

The problem is, this is what Germany did with other countries during the appeasement leading up to WWII. The allies let him annex German-speaking areas of other countries, but Hitler just used these areas to build up his military capability to take the rest of those countries and other parts of Europe.

Will Putin stop or take more? I think the pattern is: he will take more of Ukraine, since he took Crimea and Donbas earlier, and has his eye on former Warsaw Pact countries that are now part of NATO. Weakness with Ukraine doesn't help, but weakness for NATO members spells the end of NATO. I suspect our NATO partners are about to drastically increase their militaries.

I’ve worked in and with EUCOM for over the past two decades, those types of jobs have always existed.

And GS-11 & 12 jobs are not really top tier positions.

I've also been to Mihail Kogalniceanu, Romania. If you head that way, I strongly suggest staying in Constanța!

But be careful driving, the Romanians are the worst!

So I'm going to give the TLDR of this if I can, but forgive me as Russian and Latin American History were my focuses on the history part of my degree.

Kyev -- was the original designated capitol of the Rus. It only changed during the Mongol Occupation when the Princes of Muscovy tricked their Mongol overlords that Kyev, Novogrod, and another city that escapes me right now had plotted against them. The Mongols burned the other three major cities in the Rus to the ground leaving Muscovy as the SOLE claim as the capitol of the Rus. This happened from about 1230 to 1480. Pre 1230 Kyev was the de facto Capitol of the Rus.

So there is a historical reason that the Russians would believe Ukraine part of their society.

However, there is a much more devious thing going on right now between Biden and Putin.

Biden has DEEP corrupt connections in the Ukraine, he is on the hook to protect those connections at all costs or they will rat him out. Remember his son sat on the board of a Ukrainian oil company.. A crackhead... with no geological or chemical background. They're playing chicken. I prefer we don't get involved.

EDIT -- It came to me while watching a youtube video on gamers nexus LOL ROSTOV was the third city burned to the ground.
