My two cents:
- Ariats are fake western boots made in China. The company has used Chinese money to buy their way into the pro rodeo circuit and have bought celebrities through clothing and boot contracts.
- Long time American boot companies have outsourced manufacturing to other countries, mostly Mexico. Tony Lama, Double H, Justin and Lucchese are good examples. Most have both US and foreign models in their lineups and are similar to GM, Ford and Chrysler in how they make and market products. US companies using foreign plants to supplement the high cost of manufacturing in the States.
- Over the past 50 years I have worn Acme, Dan Post, Double H, Justin, Lucchese, and Tony Lama. My favorite kickaround daily boots are Justin; my dress boots are Lucchese. I have’t bought a new pair in the last 5 years and the last time I was in Cavendars I left befuddled by all the brands and countries of origin.
