In my mind, this is the problem. We've got a new disease, that no one is resistant to yet, that spread apparently very easily, and when new cases are announced, we just get what city they're from and where they traveled to recently.

If the government was serious about stopping the spread, they would be announcing what flight he was on, what all stores he had visited since his return with the dates, etc.

Even if this is no worse than the regular flu. I don't want the regular flu either. If this one spreads easier, how about helping the rest of us not catch it?

My husband who works hospital building maintenance says that people (patients? employees?) are stealing the sanitizer bags from the wall mounted hand sanitizer dispensers.

Yep. CO children’s hospital in Denver has fired more than a few employees, to include medical staff for theft of supplies related to this.

It’s to the point they have limited entrances and any bags/purses have to be checked.

Some humans really disappoint me.

His message throughout the training was “your hands are the nastiest things on your body” and wash your damned hands with soap and water”

Sanitizers don’t really do shit, but soap and water will actually clean/sanitize.

When they tire of bread and circuses bring fear, uncertainty and doubt. Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Cliche but no less true by the fact. By inducing panic the people flock to the perpetrators for safety and comfort. More's the better if the opportunity can be leveraged for political advantage.

Simply a new strain of a common virus not the end of the world. Take standard precautions as with any other strain of this virus. The concern is not the virus, instead the exploitation of the irrational fear and dependency of the masses.
