I heard that elsewhere as well. Haven't looked into the apps and/or exact equipment needed personally, but the video clearly shows him scanning both officers.

What's the point of having and trying to hold a line if you are going to just let any Tom, Dick, and Harry walk up on it and through? One does not know that person's intentions. Hell, he could have been a suicide bomber w/ a grudge against the police (a bit of hyperbole perhaps) . As far as I see it, walking through the line is a hostile act and should be seen and treated as such.

And if they did use more discretion, and the guy sucker punched another cop with his helmet, then what would their answer be? Or if he had an acid pouch in his hand and threw it in their face?

If you watch the video a little longer you see the cops arresting a guy and handcuffing him which is something they could just as easily do to this old communist too. The question is not whether the guy should have been there or whether he was an agitator, I think we all agree that he was, but did the cops use excessive force when they could have just turned him around, cuff him and take him in, like they did for the next guy. The entire situation around the world is the question of excessive force for a given situation.

Arrest him for walking up? No. Excessive force? No.

This is a freak accident. The one officer barely touch him, and the other did not push back much. This was an accident caused mostly by the guy losing his balance as he was pushed by a line of cops moving forward, that he had no legal right to prevent or interfere with.
