So part the line momentarily and reform on the other side of the old guy. He posed no threat in this particular case.

Parting the line defeats the purpose of the line.

Unless he was saying “that’s my house, I’m going home” he should have gone the other way.

Not sure what he was saying or why he was waving his arms around. When my granddad was 70 he wasn’t one to mess with. He was in his 80s when a bad case of pneumonia finally allowed the decades to catch up with him. Age is not an automatic “I get no consequence” card.

The single cop that shoved might have pushed too hard. He may have been concerned about the protesters a few yards out trying to rush up if the line opened.

If the protests had been completely peaceful all day then there was probably not a lot of reason for such concern. I’m assuming it was like many others and the police were acting to break up a protest turning riot. More info could change my opinion.

Not that it necessarily excuses any actions by police on the scene, but this guy is no angel. He's apparently known to the police, a socialist "peace" activist. One of the groups he associates with does things like breaking and entering military(?) nuclear submarine facilities (https://buffalonews.com/2020/06/05/...lice-is-longtime-peace-activist-from-amherst/).

He also seems fairly proud of his arrest record:
    Four arrests,
    no convictions.

Protestors rushing the line from several yards away if one cop steps aside just long enough to go around the old man? I don't think so. They aren't Earl Campbell hitting a momentary opening.

Look at the guy - he was no Hulk.

Protestors throwing things at cops, hitting them, fighting? Go after 'em.

Elderly man waving his arms? Show a little common sense. Would not have hurt a dang thing.

I'm sure they could tell by observation, that he had no bad intentions once their backs were to him, after they allowed him to pass through.

    He went looking for trouble
    He found it
Should have kept his ass at home or at least not been up on the face of the police
He got what he wanted I guess
    I'm happy for him

This was not fake news as far as I can tell. The police used force for what reason? Was he in violation of any laws by talking to the cops? He may be an old socialist but force was not needed in this circumstances and a fall like the one he took could be lethal. I don't think that was fake blood.

First assume it's all fake. Not fake? Assume he was attacking the officers. He wasn't? Assume the officers had a line to keep. It doesn't account for excessive reaction causing blunt force trauma? Well it's his fault for being there.

The point is - start with the conclusion, then work your way backwards to justify it.

Had the person raise a hand on the officers, tried to reach for something, pose any kind of threat - I'd probably also be on the side saying "he had it coming".

But you have a video showing from all angles an older man speaking to police officers, then getting pushed back aggressively and getting injured, and I'm just amazed by how much hate people have that they can actually justify this kind of behavior. Regardless of agreeing with his actions or political affiliation, this is a person that have done no harm.

Personally, I wouldn't go there too, but I cannot understand how one looks at this video and feels "glad", or justifying this kind of unprofessional behavior. This is a real person and nothing in what we've seen justifies this outcome.

    Baiting cops to react.
Then prosecuting the cops when they do react.

This is how I see it, and it’s beyond wrong.

Emotions are heightened at these protests.
Cops are getting attacked, but they have every right to go home to their families.

Why aren’t the rabble rousers getting prosecuted equally?

27 years on the job, California Department Of Corrections. Believe it when I say I've pretty much seen it all. That includes seeing inmates and staff attacked/injured in a variety of ways. That would include being seriously injured by elderly, frail looking inmates. The officers on duty made their intention to void the area of protestors clear while displaying less than lethal force options. This man knowingly and willingly made the choice to breach the officers' reactionary gap/danger zone. The officers immediately summoned EMS . I don't see how they could be charged with an offense.
