The only war Biden is winning is the war on oil...............
    Uh. Hold on there, Skippy.

He's doing pretty well against American Greatness...
    He is murdering the dollar.

I would say he is winning on a number of fronts, none of which are helpful to the citizens of this country.
Including the supposed 81 million who "voted for him".

Long time ago, US had a War dept. which was then turned into the State dept. Loaded with a bunch of Karens. Wonder how we got into WWI and WWII? Wonder how we WON WWI and WWII? Military ran those wars.
HS kids, when given the 'facts' about Putin's actions, can figure out that Putin wants Ukraine for $ and control of exports/imports. His new plan - take the sea area and choke off the Gov. so he can easily take over the country. He's got the north oil/gas, Ukraine exports can only go through Poland and $ is more - market is in Africa/Asia.
Entire situation could have been easily solved if POTUS had balls, Paint the line and bomb the crap out of them if they step over. Putin's threat of nukes is just that - he knows Ru wouldn't survive and he would be held accountable. Would China step in? Doubt it. They would have to make a pre-emptive strike or their manufacturing (economy) would be decimated. No factories or anybody to sell anything to. Biden and his 'crew' aren't stupid, just not looking for US interests.
    Just my opinion.

Russia’s Black Sea Flagship Sinks After Ukraine Claims Missile Strike

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/russia...s-missile-strike-11649920914?mod=hp_lead_pos7

    Probably paywall.

And before some of the tin foil gang starts yelling "it's all lies", even Russia admits:
The source of the fire was unknown but had set off explosions of ammunition on board. A statement by the Russian Defense Ministry, reported by state agencies, said the ship sank in stormy weather due to structural damage as it was being towed to port.

Ukraine says the source of the fire was an anti-ship missile.

Either way, the ship is sunk.

    Tyler "suburbs"... :)
The country/entity with the last gas/fuel/diesel/jet fuel on the planet will rule the world...
As their military will have zero opposition... militarily-speaking...

    "Use their fuel first..."

how much sea power Russia can bring to bear - actually quite a bit. Early reports were 3 of the missile cruisers, a small carrier and 'maybe' a nuke sub. If our Intel boys don't / didn't know exactly, they need to find a paying day job. Now our intel tells us they knew Putin was going to attack before he did. Duh, Rus told us he would in 2014!
Oh, missile cruiser design failure - loaded launch tubes exposed above the armor - good targets.
Yup, carrier is in for rebuild. Don't know of failures but it had to go to sea with an ocean going tug as it couldn't handle rough seas. Th is one missile cruiser in the baltic and one in the black sea plus many small missile destroyers.

To some extent yes. But I think that scenario forgets that under those conditions we would see far more brutality by any nation without fuel.

I’ve said several times in this thread that Russia wouldn’t go nuclear unless they were facing imminent destruction. If we assume the world is still reliant on petroleum based fuels and only the US has any left, those other nations would be facing imminent destruction for lack of resources. And it won’t take much if any petroleum to launch nukes. There wouldn’t be much reason not too if your nation is dying and you are unable to fight a war for the resources necessary to survive. The last nation with petroleum would likely just become a target for every nation without.

Let's look at this logically. Rus took nuke out of Cuba as Castro was nutty enough to use them, or at least as a threat like Putin is. Rus demanded the nukes be taken out of Ukraine. West could look at Rus technology? Threat of NATO? ONLY as Rus has aggressive thoughts! Do you care if there are cops around? Only if you are a bad guy!
Putin is threatening to use nukes if NATO encircles Rus. Would he really use them? As a threat, yup. Do we back down every time he says that? So far, yup. How long are we going to be blackmailed? Back him into a corner and cut off his export $? Biden's comments/actions don't help much. Basically China/Vietnam/Korea - Iran/Iraq/Afgan - all over again.
Rus has Rostov as a warm water port, north sea is iced in winter, Petersburg almost the same. So they take Crimea. Why? Rostov is behind 2 pinch points (this is important). Ukraine is behind only one, controlled by Turkey. Ukraine has grains to export and several warm water ports. More $ for Rus. Oil exports - previously only through Ukraine pipeline and south through Georgia(and others I can't spell) plus the minor eastern pipeline. Mongolian pipeline has been stalled for years and China finally agreed but get oil at their price. Years before it is operational. Rus need China more than China needs Rus.
So our state dept has decided to cut off Rus to get Putin to stop. And spend Bs $ of taxpayer $ - that hasn't worked anyplace in the world yet. Romans tried it and went broke, Ottomans tried it and lost as they got tromped by the west, eventually. France and Britain tried and went broke. Rus tried it and went broke. When will they learn?

Germany was sanctioned in to oblivion after WW1. How did that work out?
There was substantially more to it than just sanctions.

Sanctions and the resultant economic trouble, but also existing rumors of being back-stabbed by the military elite, ethnic minorities existing in countries divided by features, not history or affinity also played huge parts

Agreed, but not that simple. There were many issues not resolved in that war. Total victory would have been better than they way it ended.

You cant subjugate a people they way Germany was after WW1 and it not blow up. You have to completely resolve differences or completely conquer then ASSIMILATE or forgive and move on.

Look at the 100 plus years of bullshit reconstruction caused after the civil war. Again I'm oversimplifying a complicated set of issues but I think the point is clear.

This series taught me a lot about the circumstances surrounding the end of the war and its long shadow which the current Ukraine can certainly trace part of its lineage to.
