If by a miracle, I’d be in charge, I’d immediately close most “overseas bases”, consolidate in places like South Korea, Taiwan, etc.

multiple methods, and being over a year into this war now, we have had plenty of time to see what has and has not been shown to be true/misleading. There is also a difference between what people want to be true, and what actually is true. Examples of this are claims made that I’m a “leftist” or a “fan” of putin. There is no logical reason for believing either of those claims, but that’s the thought process here.

I suppose to some extent this could just be considered confirmation bias.

That specific form of “statism” is what was originally known as “FASCISM”, and was the mortal enemy of communism.

Recall that Hitler & Mussolini were archetypical Fascists, and despised all communists.

In retrospect, from today’s milieu, we can’t make out much of a difference; but it is / was there and was big to them. Both shared many common features.

I have zero idea of what Putin’s current ideology is. He was a very bad guy; but recently his public statements have been “reasonable” and restrained, whether we agree, or not.

Putin presents himself and the “new” Russia as entities which could be reasoned with. Who knows ?

Guys, let's not try to infer too much about each other beyond what is said or presented.

Obviously I have a strong disagreement with Havok1 and others over this particular topic, but support for Ukraine doesn't make me a lefty because a lot of lefties support Ukraine anymore than they suggesting supporters of Ukriane send them money via Go-fund-me make them a lefty because a lot of lefties use GFM.

Trust is important in any conversation.
With the exception of one recently and suddenly active member who has attempted to sell himself as expert due only to aquirred titles, I trust yall to have goals and values pretty well aligned with mine and so any disagreement over something I feel as passionate about as Ukraine, can be discussed even when we are pretty much opposed in a lot of areas.

Havok and the others bring up some good points that should be addressed and considered, but I don't think they "support" the invasion on the whole, I tend to see more excuses for it than support for... and a tendency towards equivocation of the Ukrainian government and Russian government neither of which are perfect... I have no problem calling out the faults of either, but the fault of invading is one I find preeminent and any faults of corruption etc fall by the wayside for the time being.
