Out on the Eastern side here (Orange County). We were expecting it to continue east and really clobber us. Power just blipped once but never went out. Perhaps this was a makeup for Laura which we took head on and were without power for 9 or 10 days. Last Friday, I filled up all my gas jugs, tested the generator (do not ever get a Champion duel-fuel BTW) and made sure we had water and supplies in the camper. Maybe 2" of rain and not enough wind to down any trees. Got lucky this time.

My preps have held up nicely with the exception not having enough fuel storage. I'm forced to buy at least 4 more gas cans for a total of 8.

I'm seriously considering switching to a diesel generator for several reasons. Natural gas isn't an option here and propane is too costly IMO and difficult to refill in emergencies.

I started my little generator at 0630 Monday.
I've let it rest a couple times, but still running on same 5 gal container.
Running fridge, fans, internet, lights at night.
Also making coffee and using the microwave three times daily.

If I was running the bigger generator, and running the little AC unit, I'd have used over 10 gals.
    Probably closer to 15.

What size generator do you have? Can you take fuel from your vehicles?

    It's actually a "portable" unit.
I believe its 10k, can't remember for sure, have had it a long time.
Okay ya thats a big ac for the genset. I’ve got a 12k in the garage and my 3500 won’t run it. Have you tried a soft start like the RVers use? I considered using one to allow for a larger emergency window unit. My current one is only 7k

Yeah, my 5500 watt runs the AC, and everything else, but is a gas hog.
Amazed at how efficient the little gen is.

3500 & 2350 generators. They probably had about 1.5 residual gallons in the tank between the two when I dragged them out at 9am yesterday. I just emptied my second 5 gallon can into them about an hour ago. The 2350 has run non-stop except for fueling. It gets the internet modem, both of our work laptops & monitors, the window ac, a fan and a lamp. The 3500 runs the two refrigerators simultaneously, but I shut it down for a couple of hours at a time throughout the day. It also gets the coffee maker, air fryer and a Dorm-sized microwave oven.

Just came across this, I believe it's for my area, so others may be luckier...

ETA: Just checked area code showing, and not near me, dunno.

Did anyone get a call from Centerpoint telling them to be prepared for several more days without power?

Live press conference right now in Houston. Both acting gov. Dan Patrick and mayor Whitmire are not pleased with CenterPoint. Patrick says he's already called them directly 6 times today. And he made a point (no pun intended) to say that the immediate job is to get power back to all customers and then, if warranted, he wants an investigation (probably the wrong word; probably not a state-formal investigation) to find out if things could have been handled better, and how to ensure improvements are made.

Other than I heard the out of town crews weren’t in Houston before the storm, what else is he upset about?
