    oldag; kbaxter60; All,

FOUND one package of SMOKED NECK BONES after going FOUR places. - NOT a single SMOKED PORK CHOP to be bought anywhere that I went.
    (BOO HOO.)
Navy beans w/pork & cornbread fritters for Sunday supper, I'd guess.

    oldag; All,

To All: FWIW, my recipe for navy beans is REALLY simple - Dry Navy beans soaked overnight, smoked pork, one onion roughly chopped & black pepper.
Cooked until tender. - That's IT.
(Fyi, I used to "fancy it up a bit" but my lady & most of our friends like it BEST really "plain Jane", as above.)

My fried cornbread recipe is really SIMPLE, too: 1 cup yellow cornmeal, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, one egg (beaten), 1/4 teaspoon of salt & STIR-IN enough milk to make a batter that is as thick/thin as you want it to be.
Put batter, by serving spoon fulls, into a preheated frying pan with about 1/4 inch of grease & fry until as dark as you want.
    SERVE with butter.
(MAKE LOTS, as these very simple/quick to make fritters DISAPPEAR as if by magic.)

ADDENDA: The only "hillbilly food" that I cook that disappears FASTER than corn fritters is thick slices of eggplant, dipped into a beaten raw egg, dredged in cornmeal & pan-fried in bacon grease.

Fwiw, I finally "smartened up", bought a BIG/DEEP electric skillet from the Goodwill Store & cook the eggplant rounds AT THE TABLE, as otherwise I have to eat AFTER everyone else has eaten
(Fried eggplant is BEST when served scalding hot, straight from the frying pan.)

    yours, satx

Hillbilly food? Those are East Texas staples. Corn bread, beans, peas, fried eggplant, fried squash, greens (collard, mustard or turnip - collard are my favorite), etc.

Butter beans cooked with a smoked ham hock in a slow cooker, served with some homemade cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet is just some real good eating!
There is actually a brand of canned butter beans that is pretty darn good for canned. If I could only remember the name. Good if you are in a hurry.

    oldag,

ACTUALLY most "traditional" East Texas food is from the DEEP SOUTH as that is where over 75% of "the old settlers" came to TX from.

IF you went to AL, GA, MS or Northern LA, you would "feel right home" at the dinner table.
(MOST of our family came to TX between 1822-1840 OR fled to Texas in 1865-67 while fleeing the fury of the vengeful & vicious DY army, who HATED both Amer-Indians & CSA Partisan Rangers.)

Y'all got me wanting beans and salt pork. I need more duck eggs for corn bread. Might have to go see Dan here pretty quick. They make cornbread more gooder.

And yet, almost a year later, none of them that have hoarded, or are hoarding TP can tell you why they are hoarding!

Because best I can tell, even if you get the Covid 19, none of the symptoms are those that require huge needs for extra TP.

Personally, I think most of these people hoarding TP are just idiots!

When I was in the Walmart last week, I noticed the TP aisle almost empty... there were 4ea 6packs of Angel Soft left... my wife goes thru TP like she should have a bidet instead, so I bought two extra packs and left the other two there for somebody else. But they haven't put any more out.

I'm fortunate... a 6pack of Charmin lasts me 3 months. Last time, I scored a Charmin 12pack when I arrived at the Walmart just in time to be 3rd in line for unloading of a paper product pallet. It was one to a customer of any paper product. Otherwise, I'd have been using the handheld shower spray!!!

Personally, I think anyone that condones, advocates or promotes any type of socialist, communist, or Marxist values, or ideology, should be shipped to one of those countries for a year, and live in that environment.

I think their viewpoints and opinions of that way of life would be altered drastically.

I'd even contribute $$ to that program... and I'm a cheap bastard!!!

2.5 weeks ago -right before the election, I read on the internet that if Trump wins there'll be renewed rioting and that'll create shortages again. Something along those lines created this.

Hmmm, we din't have any problem here until there were rumors of a trucker strike, and then more Covid lockdown. Can't make TP if nobody is allowed to work!!!

    Not going to touch it.

One of my grand-daughters was staying overnight... 13yrs old at the time. She asked both us grandparents (in the same room) how to remove TP dingleberries in the shower. Oh Sweet Jumpin Jesus, that child had/has no filter!! When I told her to reach back there an pluck em out, she said "Ewwwwwww". I told her, "Hey, it's YOUR body", but the wife corrected me on the proper use of washcloths. LOL

The seashells would work but only if you have three (3) of them.

Nope, only need one... swish in the toilet water, repeat as needed.

    umm, aka sausage casings

    aka Menudo and Machaca.*

(* Hey, if I got two Chihuahuas, that'd be great names!)
