Eh, snakes all have a place in the world. I'd rather have a few snakes than the vermin that move in without 'em.

Last year, I passed on the chance to shoot a rattlesnake that I came closer than I ever want to again to stepping on. He lived where I was walking, so I decided to yield the trail to him.

I hope he continues keeping the rodent population there down. Camping in rat-infested places is not fun. I've BTDT, and would rather have some rattlesnakes than a billion rats everywhere.

I kinda want an eastern hognose snake after reading this thread. I know they live around here, according to the city website, but I'd rather buy one than capture one. I don't think my family would ever approve so long as I live in this house.

As for killing such animals, I don't think I own a single gun that wouldn't blow a snake or any small mammal to oblivion upon being shot, other than my 1911, which I still think would be super overkill.

Well, you know, that, and because it looks exactly like the pic of a rat snake.

    Way out here
Looks like a boot snake to me!

Jakashh, pass on the hognose. Their diet consists almost entirely of toads. Beautiful creatures, though. I was in the middle of Canyon Lake on a jet ski once when I saw a 6" newborn eastern swimming across. He was sure glad to see me; lost, tired, and about to drown.
