I understand that snakes invoke a primal fear, but killing things needlessly always bother me. Unless you have small children or know it is a danger (even then I am comfortable trying to relocate. Kind of a rush getting a rattlesnake into a pillow case for the long toss into the marsh), why kill it? They actually are great at pest control. I think you would be surprised how beneficial they are, and little of a danger.

Do as ya wish. When approached by an aggressive snake, it's gonna be the LAST mistake it makes. I don't have the time, inclination OR training to attempt to "deal with" 'em with anything other than lethal force.

I wanted to find out what kind it was and go from there. I have 2 dogs and a cat back there. If I had found out he wasn't poisonous I might have taken him to the creek out back. After he struck at me and my cat his fate was sealed.

BTW the wife was (and still is) freaked. She would prefer I eradicate all snakes in a 5 mile radius.

I've been seeing more snakes the last few weeks, I don't normally see rattlesnakes but this year i've seen several pretty large ones. I guess they're looking for water.

I though it was a rat snake at first, but after a quick google image search I started looking at other snakes. This one looks just like some of the pictures of blotched water snakes online.

Snakes are evil, can't stand. Other than the small gray ones they make my skin crawl and give me an undeniable urge to make them dead.

I have let some of the larger grass and rat snakes go from time to time but not when they're near the house. I don't know what that one was but it looked like something I wouldn't have thought twice about eliminating with extreme prejudice.

Unless I know exactly what it is and it has a very non confrontational disposition, it gets dead.
