Well guys I don't know your financial situations but I paid into Social Security and Medicare for 50 years and I'll be damned if I will walk away and leave the money to the libtards. Now I know there isn't really any money so don't bother with that explanation but the checks and medical care have been coming pretty regularly since then and I know Texas (though I love her dearly) couldn't pick up that burden. Therefore, yes, it is a pipe dream or a big upheaval for many people and I will boldly say many of you included.
You still get your social security. Ex-pats currently draw it.

Not to start a big Gee Whiz but payment to former citizens depends upon them living in countries where the US has "totalization agreements". I don't see Jo and d'ho granting this status to a seceded Texas. It is not automatic. BTW I did not see Russia mentioned as allowed or disallowed in the reference that I consulted.

There is a clause in the Constitution that states something about "all powers not expressly granted the federal government shall be reserved to the States".
Can someone please remind me what clause in the Constitution forbids secession? I'm old and seem to have forgotten.
Something most are forgetting or ignoring.
It was not a Country that split from England , but 13 independent colonies that agreed to join forces and fight together. They later became 13 States that agreed to form a union. In that agreement, the Constitution, there are constraints on the powers of the Federal Government. Constraints that are now largely ignored by the Courts for the sake of expediency. To a large degree the Constitution has been usurped by the Legislature and the Courts. To a large degree, with the apathy of the States.
The Constitution is what binds the States into a Country, The United States of America. When the Federal Government fails to live up to that agreement, or get it changed by a lawful process specified in that agreement, it has no expectation that the States live up to it either.
I am an American. And a Texan. My loyalty is to Texas. AND the Constitution. NOT to a Federal Government that does not live up to the Constitution.
The Feral Government was originally designed for the mutual defense of the States and to keep things in check so we don't go to war with each other.
It failed at that once. It is working on failing a second time. At this point, I don't see it as an if but more of how soon.
The first time was bad enough. Given the world as it is today, whenever a second time happens it will destroy this Union.
And Texas, as well as the rest of the World will be a worse place because of it.

All of these assumptions that the U.S. will be so hostile to us ought to tell us something about our relationship to them.
Personally, if given the choice between Texas Independence and a Social Security Ponzi scheme, I’d choose Independence.

If SS was dropped, would payments to ex military stop as well?
    As well as insurance?

ETA: I reckon I should have used benefits, instead of payments.

So what if they did? They’re taking more from us than they’re dolling back out to us every year.
How much is Independence and Self Determination worth?
You’ll likely still get your federal allowance anyway.

You are a U.S. citizen, by birth, if you are born to even one U.S. citizen in another country. Both Osama bin Bama and Ted Cruz prove that. You don't stop being an U.S. citizen because you live in another country, but only if you renounce your U.S. citizenship.

Social Security and Veterans Benefits are things you gain by working or serving to meet the requirements to receive the benefits. You don't lose those benefits simply by living in another country.

Children born to U.S. citizens living in the Republic of Texas would still be U.S. citizens, and though they obviously would not qualify for Social Security or Veterans Benefits for work in or service to the Republic, they could gain those by moving to the United States.

The U.S. would really have to be stupidly vindictive to pass the new laws necessary to deny Social Security and Veterans benefits to ex-pat citizens who earned those benefits, and those laws would almost certainly have to apply to all ex-pat citizens.

When Donetsk seceded from Ukraine all payments of pensions to residents on the other side of the demarcation line stopped. Since the current government of Ukraine is a puppet government of the US I don't have any doubt they would punish Texans in the same manner. Never underestimate the depth of evil the US government will stoop to.
Now that is some of the more ridiculous conflation I've ever seen...

C’mon, you know all those Ukrainian citizens cry at night thinking about the good old days when the USSR was in charge.

And anyone who says different can go straight to the gulag!

We’re not talking about Independence from Ukraine.
His point, if I may clarify it is secession/independence isn't easy. Looking at the Russian speaking area of Ukraine, they have been in a war for years now.

You can look at any number of other groups/states/entities that have separated or tried to seperate from another country. Rhodesia, Sri Lanka's Tamils, etc, etc.

I think Texas could do it peacefully, but the USA need only pay off a few major players to keep this from happening, just like the english did with the Scots, time and time again.

If you respect the Constitution, then you should know there is no provision for secession.
That was settled in blood 156 years ago, if my arithmetic is correct.

All this is childish talk that makes Texas look bad, and undoubtedly meets with the approval of Xi and Putin.

As I have posted before, speculating about where an Independent Texas would rank in various economic fields has always been a fun game, but just a game.
IMO, anyone who seriously thinks this state is going to secede is either delusional or just a fanatic crackpot.
As I see it, all those wars since WW2 have just been to enrich the war profiteers. Otherwise why so many wars that have dragged on for years. Hell, we were just into WW2 for four years. The hair still rises on my neck watching the holiday flag, but those wars were crap.

He “worked” worked the system for decades as a New York developer.
    Need I say more?

Not to mention his sleazy personal behavior.

But I’m glad he chewed up the establishment republican guard so much that maybe the GOP will have the balls to regain their original course before they started behaving like the totally corrupt democrats.
Glad you are not a hater. It took me a couple of decades to put away my hate for Asian people. You will make it eventually.

It is imperative that we do something to protect ourselves from what is going on I would be happy to see our laws changed to uphold the second amendment as other states have done no matter what kind of law the feds pass like shelia jackson lees over the top gun bill. I also would like to see state legislation to protect our oil, gas, and chemical industries. I know that we passed legislation not to close down due to chinese virus again. They are trying to ruin the industries and natural resources that made Texas great. I don't want my grandchildren to be raised in a dictatorship or socialist utopia. The United States is being pulled apart and we are losing our Republic and it is time for Texas to lead the way with the help of all the red states and the people living under this crooked and insane government that is in charge. Before it becomes something the world doesn't recognize.

You all realize that Texas is one of the few states that actually pay the feds billions a year while the majority pay nothing or just have their hands out. We don't need the feds money to keep our infrastructure in tact. Personally I don't think the country could survive without TEXAS they need us more than we need them so we should start imposing our strength on them. We can stop illegals at Texas borders keep the wall up at our southern border and stop the biden executive orders. It is frustrating that everything Trump tried to do the dems found a liberal judge to stop him, and we can't find a judge anywhere to actually interpret the Constitution??????
