I say that we treat this like the "Irredeemable Deplorables" comment. Snatch it away from him and turn it on him.
I plan to call his office Monday and let him (I mean his staffer) know that this is one "crazy racist" that won't be supporting him next year. Even if TEXIT goes down in flames this session, I'm going to be donating for the first time (and donating big) to anyone who got behind allowing us Texans to determine our own future.
You're not allowed to discuss campaign donations while the Legislature is in session, but you can at least call and give an at-a-boy to the few Reps that have made public statements thus far in favor of allowing a referendum. Tell 'em to sign on as a co-author.

Not "angling for [secession]." Angling for exercising our God-given and constitutionally guaranteed right to mutually (as much as that's possible) agree on our own local self governance. Independence would be another way of putting it. Seems that today the concept of Independence is lost on a lot of folks who value Union over State, Membership over Independence, Federal over State/Local Governance.
Can't see how welching on one's personal federal income taxes would be a good way to do or start anything other than to have your bank account seized by the very Federal Government that we're all supposed to fear and love above all things.

Neither a state nor an individual can be independent while being coerced to pay tribute. It'll be nice when the State stops paying it, but in the mean time it's a completely nonviolent step individuals can take on their own. Hypothetically speaking...

We know how impossible Texas Independence is (mostly due to the countercurrent of the pessimist, bandwagon-or-no wagon attitude that you just exemplified) but some of us actually want to preserve the Texas that we love and grew up in for our posterity, whether it's popular or not.
