It's really cold, windy and some showers are close by so I exercise my retirement prerogative of staying in when the weather is crappy.

Gonna fire up Dillon RL550B #1 and finish loading 100 rounds of .300 Blackout. Most will be FMJ bullets, but about the last 25, will be soft point Midway specials.

Then we turn to Dillon #2 and will brew up 100 rounds of .458 Socom using 300 grain Hornady soft point, hollow point slugs. That will be enough to test them. Earlier, I loaded 20 rounds to get the press working to perfection.

I bought plenty of .300 Blackout new brass and have several thousand assorted bullets on hand so there's plenty of room to grow.

On the .458 Socom, I purchased 400 new Starline brass and hundreds of the 300 grain Hornady bullets. This should be fun when the weather warms up a bit! The Socom recipes call for Large pistol magnum primers so I ordered 2000 of those.

Both cartridge recipes use H110 powder.

Cold and windy indeed. Wife asked if i was going to go outback and test my new bullet mold last night. Told her heck no because it was too cold.

Shot my first reloads. 50x 55gr soft point Hornady in front of 24.5gr of Winchester 748 powder. All cycled perfectly and were relatively accurate (I was at an indoor range, so 25yd max and no bench resting...)

Also shot my first reloads in 9mm using 147gr Hornady XTPs in front of 3.2gr of titegroup. These felt very interesting, almost no muzzle flip, but all 7 cycled perfectly, and it did feel like a tight group. I only loaded 7 of those, since as I understand it, titegroup is very sensitive and I want to take it nice and slow learning the ins and outs of 9mm + TG. I did attempt to load 10 rounds, but since I'm a newbie, I seated three of them too deep and I didn't want to risk overpressure.

Now I'm going to look at the cases I recovered and see if they look OK - no signs of overpressure and such.

    Nice!!!

Just curious though... why did you stuff R-19 into what look like 2x4 stud bays?

That is a good question. Good eye.

As i recall, r19 in a 3.5" area reduces insulating capabilities

correct on all points. When I stopped by the hardware store, they were out of r-13 and the r-19 was only $3 per roll more so my first batch was r19 (when compressed to 3.5", it is rated at r14). It was easier to just pay the extra $15 than to fight 5 oclock traffic back across town to find r13. the second batch I bought was a mix of r13 (to complete the walls), and r19 for the ceiling. they didnt have any r13 that was 23" wide and the ceiling joists are on 24" centers.

now if I can just find a drywall hoist to rent to hand the osb on the ceiling!

I've got one of these in my garage attic! http://www.harborfreight.com/drywall-panel-hoist-69377.html Bought it on sale at Harborfreight years ago when I added insulation and drywall to my detached garage. I think I paid around $140.

Good to know you didn't buy R-19 on purpose. :)

BTW, you might want to let all that OSB off-gas before you start using the workshop. Dunno how they are made these days, but I remember they would out-gas formaldehyde for quite a while after you free them from the stack.

Looks like about 25'x30'? Good amount of space. I'm in the process of planning/building of my workshop behind my garage, and it is going to be about that size. About 1/3 of it will be A/C'ed. Judging by the size of your window AC unit, you possibly are doing the same? ;)

like to have froze this morning and had the heater going till noon. now I sit here at 10 pm wiring in plugs with the damn AC running full blast!! Gotta love texas weather!

Oh well, walls done and ceiling almost finished! full days work before running out of OSB. miscalculated by one sheet! here is the culprit that threw me off! 19"x48" which means I had to kill a full sheet to cover that one spot. Wife did pick me up 3 more rolls of R13 for the ceiling (this time they were out of R19)!

Gotta work quick tomorrow. sheetrock lift is due back before noon! would have finished all but the one sheet, but didnt want to be running the skilsaw after 9pm due to the neighbors! now to figure out how to light this thing and to start building work benches. my wife already claimed 3' on one end for making Tee shirts. I gotta get my reloading bench installed and some shelving built on the other end before she finds something to go there!

Ceiling, trim, and hopefully paint tomorrow. Boss was nice enough to let me take one more vacation day tomorrow, so I gotta make it count! Railroad came in the plant last night, derailed 3 cars and took out 4 of our 12 loading stations so it looks like once im back to work, ill be working for a while without a break again!
