I really have no justification besides I feel like it may help them shoot better but know I could be completely wrong too. Many rifles shoot better with the bullet closer to the lands but again, some like more room too. No guarantees.

The honest answer is I have an AR I received in trade with a 1:7 twist and want to experiment with heavier bullets. I do not know who made the barrel but since it isn't marked I assume it isn't top of the line. I am trying to give these rounds every advantage I can think of.

The lower and trigger are nice but the upper is what I am concerned about. If it works out I may turn it into a single shot. If it doesn't it will stay just another AR and I may trade it off.

For what I have in it I don't plan on investing a ton of time into it. If these rounds show promise I will continue. If they don't I have one more powder to try and then will decide what to do with it.

TL; DR version: I am just playing around.

Finally got to shoot some test loads for the Savage 10BA LE in 308. Loaded 42 - 43.5gr Varget in half grain increments, 168SMK, Kinetic brass (samples they sent to see if we want to carry them), WLR primers. Running about 0.005 off lands.

43.5gr shot the best. .351". Possible operator error. 4 shot group. 3 shot group was .160" Last shot barely touching the other 3-shot hole. Only 4 shots because I had 19 pieces of brass. 43gr shot .450. I think I improved my hold for the last group though, so I'm not really sure that it was entirely the load development or the shooter development. I'll go back and load some more 43.5 - 45gr. IIRC, 46 is listed as max. Also need to dial the trigger down from stock (about 2,7 to about 1,6-1,8. I think 1,6 is the lowest Savage recommends.

On a similar note, I have a Stealth 6.5CM on the wall that a customer is planning on buying. He dry fired it and fell in love with the trigger. then I pulled on it. Wow. Much nicer...and lighter...than my 10BA, which isn't all that shabby to start with. Another customer bought the Stealth 338LM I was planning on adopting. Now this guy wants my other next rifle.

If you use that as the nursery then the baby won't wake you up all night.

    Just sayin'.

Thanks for the offer! After 15+ years in the field (Industrial E/I), I can handle the electrical side. Now if I end up getting into plumbing, I might need some help!
