It's the name of the game. My fiance studied business at UT and once pop quized me on a "Predator business". It stuck in my head because it seems like good strategy but is also a pain in the ass if its being used against you. A predator business sells a product/service at a much lower price than competitors. The competitors go out of business, once the competition is eliminated, they jack the prices up and are the only supplier for that area, and flourish like a bunch of bums on governement healthcare... :)

    I hear that.

Hard working figuratively rather than literally, okay -- well that makes sense. Actually this whole discussion about using cheap labor and outsourcing brings up another topic that I've thought about for some time now:

Walmart is bad for the economy.

Walmart demands such low prices from their suppliers that companies are forced to outsource rather than hire American workers. Now personally I avoid Walmart aside from purchasing some ammo there on occasion because it's cheaper at Walmart than at Academy or a gun store where I live, but for many Americans Walmart has become a way of life. Low prices at the cost of production outsourcing. Walmart creates jobs by opening Walmart stores that require staff and logistics but mom & pop shops in the area suffer because they can't compete with the low prices.

Where do you guys weigh in on this?

I don't believe in shutting down successful businesses to help struggling ones.

Americans are the most produtive people on Earth. They work harder and longer. Yeah, businesses are shipping jobs overseas because the cost of labor. Its hard to compete with people making dollars a day vs $20/hour (or in some cases much much higher for basic, non-skilled and semi-skilled jobs). Thats life. Heck, whole industries have been created and destroyed over time as demand and invention have occured. The pain is that it really hurts the Manufactoring jobs in the country. Those that are here hurt themselves even more with unions and making medioctre stuff (ok, i'm only thinking of cars, but they are a big one).

the dollar has been falling, and I think that foriegn workers will become more expensive. (which will help the American worker become less expesnive to business).

I guess, yeah, walmart doesn't pay their staff much or give the benefits that other busness give, but no one is forcing them to work there. If they thought they were worth more, they can work somewhere else. I don't consider walmart to be skilled labor.

I think it is wrong to break contract, not pay their workers, be racists in hiring/firing/promoting, and do under the table stuff (read, hire people illegally, not pay taxes, and coerce their employee. To a large extent, labor laws protect the worker from much of the above. I'm not an expert, but things are better than they used to be.

    Gosh, that was a bit of a ramble. . . .

    Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Ohhh-ho, I'd actually be very interested to hear how an American Indian feels about all of this. I'm a 4th generation Italian American and whenever I start to think that it sucks how few scholorship opportunities and things of that nature are out there for "white" people as opposed to blacks or hispanics, I just remember how screwed the native American community is and then I absolutely have no room to complain.

No offense taken Clockwork that was funny we need something funny in here sometimes to break the tension from venting our frustrations. In short indians don't get near as much as hispanics or others in this country because we are so few. There are programs to help american indians but the red tape almost always keeps you from anything that is just handed to aliens. Im in houston with my wife at the hospital right now so im too tired to really get on my soap box.

Walmart definitely has its warts, but I think overall they are helpful for rural areas. I grew up in a small college town. Trough a series of several events the town has grown a lot since I left, but when I was a kid wal-mart was pretty much the only place you could get "luxury" items. There were a couple of grocery stores and clothing stores and other things that provided necessities, but for example there was no pet store. No electronics store. I loved having fish as a kid, but probably never would have any if it wernt for the aquarium section in wal-mart. They also brought a lot of jobs to the area. A couple of my friends got jobs at wal-mart to put themselves through college. By the time they were done with college, they had been promoted to managers and decided to just stay on at wal-mart because they were already making good money and still had lots of room to climb the corporate ladder.

Some of their business practices do leave a bit to be desired and they are part of this "made in china" problem, but I'm not going to demonize them for it. You can still find products in wal-mart that are made in USA. Just buy those and ignore the china crap.

And what's up with that, anyway? Hispanics are rapidly becoming the majority and native Americans rapidly the very, very tiny minority... it should be the other way around.

Well most Mexican Americans are from American Indian blood anyway. My great grandfather was an Apache who's parents had to learn to speak Spanish to escape death from the Mexican soldiers, and had to learn to speak English to talk to the whites to find jobs. I love my heritage both Mexican and Indian, but some of the pale skins forget that you are the original Aliens. LMAO! So that means that we should load you all up in boats and send back all the whites, Asians, blacks and what ever other culture is here back to thier origins?

It's funny cause I was at the store one day and this old white guy told me to go back where I came from, so I asked hin for his address so i could camp in his back yard.

But do many people trace their ancestry back to being Mayan, Incan, Aztec, etc? It seems like it would be such a small portion of their genetic make up.

OMG, how can someone be so dense? Someone on this forum has an avatar picture that reads "Native Americans: Fighting terrorism since 1492," that tongue-in-cheek quip always makes me chuckle. I have no illusions about my ancestors coming to this country through Ellis Island and having to learn English to be able to get by... some people forget that we're almost all immigrants here.

Those who think there are lots of nice, federally and casino funded programs designed to keep people in poverty . . . . I mean give people a leg up, you aren't from Oklahoma. My blond hair and blue eyes hides the fact that I'm between 1/8 and 1/16 Cherokee. It only expresses itself when I try and grow facial hair. I can grow it, but it isn't a pretty picture, but it is a lot worse in my father. I'm not a card carrying member of the Nation, though sometimes I wished I was. The exact benefits vary by the tribe (and then depending on level of purity in some tribes). My cousins have 1/216th cards. I kind of get a kick out of that.

you are correct, most families here came from another country at some time in their generations. BUT, most all immigrants that came to this country in the early part of the 19th century came here, wanted to assemble, learn/speak the national language here ENGLISH, wave the U.S. flag, get a job or start a business and pay their share of taxes and basically conform to the AMERICAN way of life and happy to be here!!!!! alot of the new breed of immigrants that come here, COMPLAIN about everything, to LAZY to speak english/want to speak their own language, work under the table and pay no taxes for yrs, collect billions of $$ of federal and state assistance, want to wave their own flags, and basically want this to be the new version of the country they left to come here!!! not to mention didnt follow the rules/laws and EXPECT us to just hand /make them legal citizens!! WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FOLLOWING PROPER PROCEDURES TO GET INTO THIS COUNTRY LEGALLY???????? there's absolutely NO EXCUSE FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they broke the law and are CRIMINALS and should be treated as such!!!

Interesting. Do you have any sources, (articles, research, statistics) from which any of these statements are derived?
