I have a hankering for a traditional Colt 1911. I'm looking at the plain jane blued series 70 classic government model. I have other 1911's but no Colt's. I have heard Colt's QC has had varying degrees of competency for the past decade or two. Anyone own any of Colt's recent stuff? I have considered going the CMP route but the "luck of the draw" way they are running things has really turned me off. The fear of receiving a rattle trap is real and disturbing. When I acquired my Garands from the CMP, I had to go to CMP North store to pick them off the rack myself. There are other manufacturers making decent clones but I'm pretty set on getting the genuine article. On top of all this, nobody seems to have any in stock and I'd rather not get raped on Gunbroker. Thoughts on QC, reliability, availability, etc etc???

If you are looking for a Colt branded 1911 to add to your collection, personally, I'd look to some of the older pistols rather than the newer ones. The last new Colt 1911's I looked at several years ago, IMO left a lot to be desired fro the asking price when comparing them to other brands of 1911's.

    Gunz are icky.
My experience with recently produced Colts is positive.
I’ve purchased several in the last few years both Series 70 and 80.
The basic guns have been great.
The more elaborate models not so much.
I’d feel confident buying that model you’re looking for.

    Hey P&R,

If you are looking for a "shooter"...

You will be well served with a current production 1911.

In a "practice" competitive type match, have had the pleasure of shooting a Stage with both the Stainless Gold Cup in 45acp and the "Blue" 9mm.

I would not hesitate to shoot Matches with either...

Both were "out of the box" with zero mods....

For a collector, go with the "O" Frame from the '50's & '60's.. or even the '20's & '30's....(might get lucky and snag one of the few commercial 1911's from the '40's....)

    Later, Mark

But I got it reworked by a true 1911 gunsmith here in Austin before he retired All my innards are pristine a beautiful shooter. I like my 1911s like I like my white women just a little on the trashy side
