All depends on what you're looking for in a 1911. If it's the Colt brand, then go for it. I don't know anyone that owns one saying they hate it.

If it's performance you want, then do your research. I compared the Gold Cup with the S&W Performance Center, which both were about the same price line. The Gold Cup was pretty, but everything on the S&W was very tight and smooth. I ended up with the S&W.

I have several recent Colt 1911s. The consensus among people smarter than I is that Colt is making some of it's best pistols ever. I agree.

Bought new a Colt SS series 70 government “Competition” model a few years ago. Decent shooter, but only got it because I just had to have a Colt. Personally I don’t see it as a particularly remarkable piece. Not great but not bad either. I prefer my Ruger 1911. It’s a series 70 design as well and just feels more premium in the hand. Colt is over priced for what they are, but there will always be someone like me that just wants a Colt in their collection. They really need to be about $150-200 cheaper..

im gonna post the hottest take, but if colt does make a new 1911 it should be double stack and not have some bullshit grip safety.

Some years ago, I found a Colt 1911 Commander, blued in near mint condition at a gun store, for $900.

Saw it on a Tuesday, and decided to think it over for a day or two. Stopped in on Friday and decided to go ahead and buy it. Somebody bought it on Thursday.

    Sometimes, think long, think wrong.
That's my usual experience on used pistols, sometimes new as well. If I want it I get it while it's in sight.
