Since 1986 when I bought my first 1911 on the recommendation of a close friend, I have been on a quest for the "perfect" 1911 ever since. I have owned more than a few since that first one, and have enjoyed shooting and owning just about every one of them over those years. And still, I haven't found the perfect one yet!

Every time I find what I think is going to be the perfect 1911 pistol, and be the last one I would ever need, there always seems another comes along that just might be more perfect than the last one!

So what is the conclusions I have come upon? There isn't a perfect 1911, and that I really need more than just one to satisfy that 1911 itch that needs to be scratched!

I would LOVE to have the 1911 that I was issued for the watch on the old Sea Leopard (SS483). It was a Colt 1914 stamped U.S.Calvary. That pistol was VOODOO! It just went to point of aim like magic.

I'm obviously an exception, but I don't think I've ever fired one that didn't jam on me.
Has to do with me being left handed.

Doesn't happen with other semi autos.

See there's the problem. John Browning was right-handed!

I had one 1911 a few years ago, that jammed really badly using aluminum cased ammo. It just didn't like the stuff. Solution? Stop using aluminum cased ammo. Problem solved.

But, unless aluminum cased ammo is just beyond dirt cheap, I don't even bother buying it, since I can't sue the cases for reloading. Only reason I buy any factory ammo is for the cases anyways anymore. I can shoot the ammo then have more cases to reload to shoot more!

Funny you say this. I have had more problems with 1911's than anything else. Also left handed.

As for the OP, I'm not a collector nor do I believe in spending big money for a pistol, but something stainless and full size in 10mm and not a delta elite.

It's due to pushing on the button on the right side of the slide.

I do have 3, one happens to be a stainless 10mm Dan Wesson CBOB.

Possibly. I haven't had any issues with my current 1911 a RIA 10mm non stainless. I've owned 5 1911s. A Springfield range officer, Colt Delta Elite, Ruger SR1911 and a RIA GI model. Had issues with all except the current RIA.

I wish S&W would offer a 10mm in the E series. I'd pick one up for sure. I think it's a a beautiful pistol and costs less than a grand which is nice.

My all time 1911-ish pistol that I've owned in the past, and just ordered another one, is the Star Modelo Super in 9mm Largo.
    Mine was accurate, and powerful.
You may scoff, or chuckle about the Star, but when a pistol that is a hybrid 1911 and Browning Hi-Power, and can achieve over 400 ft.-lbs of muzzle energy, sometimes maxing out at 500 ft.-lbs, is a formidable round, and defensive firearm.
Wolf still makes springs for it.
The factory loaded ammo may seem weak, like a regular 9x19mm, but it comes into it's own when handloaded.

I bought a 1911 because of all of the rants and raves about how you need a 1911. So I bought a Ruger SR1911 full size in .45acp. It is a good gun, has never jammed, shoots nicely and is accurate. I don't know that one of the $3000 guns would have been any better. I personally don't buy a gun with the thoughts of adding fancy stuff to it. I pretty much keep them stock. It is not a carry gun but a nice range gun. If I want a carry .45 I use my Glock 21. Greater capacity, shoots well, never fails. Very few guns I just don't like. For enjoyable shooting at the range though I favor a revolver.
