I find it peculiar that I can buy anything in Texas except for a handgun.

I have current Texas CL, Physician License, Lifetime hunting/fishing, etc. Local bank accounts, belong to TMA, HCMS, H A M, Life-TSRA. I wonder what the 'legislators" were thinking?

They were thinking they did not want states with lax laws selling to out of state residents from strict states and bring the guns back.

    Thank you.
The one (and so far only) shop I stopped in to is saying that none of those would work. Additionally, I don't have a lease agreement, it's my FIL's home that we are using for the moment.

If your out of state DL is current and has photo, it covers everything but residency.

So you need a govt issued document that shows where you reside.

    I don't have current Texas residency or a Texas D L.

Whenever I visit Texas I have plenty handguns anyway. Couldn't the "legislators" understand and/or anticipate that ? There is no prohibition for me HAVING or carrying a handgun in Texas, so exactly what does this STUPID "law" prevent ? Seems that having a current Texas C L should over-rule the restriction.

OK, saw 26b; but, so what does this have to do with it? I can buy rifles & shotguns, ammo etc. I don't see anything re "handguns" on the form.

Handguns are treated differently than Rifles and shotguns are. Under federal law, you can only purchase a handgun from within your own state of residence. If you want to buy a handgun from an out of state source, by law you are required to have the person out of state ship the gun to a licensed firearm dealer located in your state, then that shop can transfer the handgun to you. If you buy a handgun any other way from out of state you are breaking federal law as well as probably your state law too.

If I lived in DFW Houston Austin metro areas, I would check nearby rural counties for a DL appointment. The receipt is good for purchase from a FFL dealer. Though some dealers may not allow that, it is legal.

While living @ Houston or Galveston, the Dickinson office is very convenient.

Drat! Well, that one is pesky too!

IMO, they are all restrictive and infringing. If a person is legal to buy any firearm, in any state, it really shouldn't matter what state they reside in.

That is purely a comment and nothing more.
Way before my buying time, but I think GCA68 required a state to say it was OK to buy in a contiguous state, hence that law. It was superceded by FOPA86 which removed that requirement and opened up to all states, not just contiguous.

Like many of our gun laws, it really doesn't make any sense. Simply because, the Form 4473 covers all states. If a person is legal in one state, per the Form 4473 and a background check, then they should be legal in any other state, even if they don't reside there.

I'm not questioning your statements, just the logic behind the laws.

I know I was just trying to get to the "how we got this assinine law" in the first place...
