Truth. I was delayed many moons ago and I have a spotless record, easy to spell name, etc, absolutely no reason for a deny/delay. I attributed it (in my pea brain) to my TWIC application and subsequent federal background check two weeks prior but I'll never know, zero information was provided. My LGS called me when it cleared and I went and picked up my firearm.

Welcome to the USA! I applaud you for exercising your rights and seeking a firearm. Ignore the unnecessary off topic banter, this forum is full of good information but also clogged with fact less opinion...you'll have to learn to sort through that on your own. Be patient, buy a few extra magazines and as much ammo as you can afford, and practice often. You'll get this sorted in due time.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully this will get cleared up soon...

If you get delayed a lot, you can contact NICS, fill out all the proper paperwork/provide the requested documentation and request a UPIN (unique personal identification number). There is a space for it on the 4473 and when they do a background checks it separates you from the bad actors.

Or just get an LTC.......and shop at places that use them in lieu of a background check.
I do have an LTC. I'll try at my LGS this weekend, hopefully I'll have no trouble

Many terms of the NFA make very little sense.

It has long been clear to me that the left & demonrats just want to hurt our 2A rights, no other “logic” involved.

How many more innocent schoolkids will be sacrificed to their stupid “Gun Free Zones”? But they cannot see, or don’t care, the damages they do to innocents.

Indeed. One thing to notice is that, following DPS' instructions, name on my LTC has to be just the same as my DL. And their system does not accept spaces in the Last Name field. Had to send an email and call DPS to figure out what to do. They just told me they're not able to put spaces in the field and that both my last names would have to be in there together without a space. So that's the way it is in my LTC...

Kinda seeing a pattern here... Most likely was an issue with my last names :(
I bet this was on Academy's end. They just settled a lawsuit and I bet they are paying hyper attention to details that really shouldn't matter.

This is what happens when they settle for something that wasn't their fault. I've bought one from Academy, not a fan of their process; it's clunky compared to others. I mean really, makes no sense, since you have an LTC and that wasn't addressed by them.

My one, only and last experience of purchasing a firearm at Academy was several years ago on fairly new release.
My local gun shop said he could order it but no idea on delivery and I needed by Christmas.
Well after much consideration found it in stock at our local store. I swear from the time I walked to the firearms counter and told the man what I wanted and he checked stock, immediately things changed. I was suspect and suspicious to them it seemed. I am LTC holder and that didn’t seem to ease the situation at all or lighten the mood or experience. After all the paperwork and financials I was immediately escorted to the front door and told I had leave with the firearm.
It was the most time consuming and cold firearm purchase I have ever made. And it will not be repeated again.

I bought an M&P 2.0 from them once and that was the last time I ever bought a gun there again. The guy at the counter was great and we talked guns for a bit not at all his fault. The problem started when they ran the background check, I swear it took nearly 45 minutes! I was at the point where I was about to tell them I was out when the manager finally comes down. He had a pissed off look on his face and avoided looking in my direction and never said a word to me. After his arrival I was finally given the all clear and the counter guy walked me to the register. The teen gal at the register was like ewww a yucky scary gun! Then the I was walked to the door. Never again, quite possibly the worst gun buying experience I've ever had. The only reason I stuck it out was due to the pistol being on sale at the time.

I do buy ammo there from time to time though. I had a laugh one day when the skinny kid at the register was unable to lift the ammo I plopped down with one hand. He looked like a woke progressive and it gave me a good laugh but apparently he didn't think it was too funny. Them bullets is heavy!

Bass pro Shop does the same thing. I one time bought my daughter her Ruger 10/22 rifle when they had their sale . Same thing after filling out paperwork they needed someone to come and escort me out of the store and hand me the gun at the door. Not even Gander did this when they were open. Keep in mind I was in uniform when this occurred. So now I just buy from either IOP or my local gun shop especially the ones who donate and support our shooting team and others.

So from the OP's description of the attempt to buy. He had a DL, LTC, Visa/I94, a hunting license and credit card that didn't have matching names on them. He was from Mexico. He answered one of the qualifying questions wrong and he's wondering why they didn't sell him a gun?

You know if it were the middle east, and you walked in to some place and asked for a sig, they'd probably throw you from a roof.

If Academy sold a gun to a customer who had an LTC and didn't do a background check and the customer answered the 4473 correctly, wasn't drunk or making threatening statments, etc., then Academy met their federal legal standards for the transaction. Why would they run a background check AFTER the gun has left the store?

Should have never given them your SSN.. LTC is all you need.. SSN is not required if you give LTC.. that's it, boom you walk out the door with a firearm. Your LTC is your Background check..

Support local business, and stay away from the big box stores!
Did they provide you with the NTN # (they shouldnt have needed to even submit it if your LTC was valid)

Several years ago I had a delay on a purchase at Academy. When I called a few days later they had no record of the hold/delay. Less than an hour later they called me pick up the gun.
    Wut?

The record is the 4473 Itself. There is literally a box they check that is marked delayed
