There are laws regarding how you carry pistols in this state? Can you run a two point sling on an AR pistol? Can you run a shoulder holster for a handgun?
*genuinely surprised it’s easier to carry a pistol in Nevada than Texas. I knew this state wasn’t all it was cracked up to be for gun rights.

Yup to all the above and you can haul your ass back to wherever it came from.
Effective 9/1/21 handguns can be carried openly or concealed in any type of holster. Until 9/1/21 they can only be carried openly in a belt or shoulder holster. So, your AR pistol could be carried openly now in a belt or shoulder holster and on 9/1/21 it can be carried openly in any holster. Only a long gun can be carried openly (sling) without a holster. Your AR pistol is a handgun.
I am not a lawyer and enjoy moving to Texas.
I should have mentioned that until 9/1/21 the only way to carry a handgun openly is with a License To Carry (LTC). Effective 9/1/21 permitless carry is effective.Thanks Rotor. I wasn’t treading. A realistic view of officers reaction to your choices is about discernment and risk assessment, not being tread on.
Some officers might choose NOT to stop you even if it was illegal if they were worried you might likely engage them with said AR, but then they might also call a bunch of backup.
We learned in the open carry movement that officers don’t always know, or follow the laws. I’ve run the risk of arrest and am not telling you you can’t do the same, only to have realistic expectations.
