"When a Goverment issues stay and home orders or mask mandates, there will always be a certain percentage of the people who fall into line and obey without question and they in turn feel it is their job to force others to obey."
Well, wife called her 85yr old cousin tonite. They moved their daughter from a home in Houston (Feb) to avoid covid. Lori has it now along with 3 others in the new home. Some worker partied and got it. BTW, Lori has cerebral palsy due to birth injury, been in a wheel chair since grade school. Mom & dad been footing the bill all the way.
    So keep on partying, idiots!

In my hospital system if you do not or can't get the flu vaccine you are required to were a mask while at work.

That’s just a stupid rule. I don’t know how many times - can’t even begin to guess - how many times they announced weeks or months AFTER the fact, they “guessed wrong” and didn’t get the flu shot formulation right. In an attempt to explain why so many people got the flu even though they had taken that year’s shot. So you get the shot, don’t have to wear a mask AND still transmit that year’s flu bug to patients. And them missing the correct formulation seemed to happen at least half the time!

[ETA] At my work we got free flu shots every year. I kept track, during one stretch they got the formulation wrong three out of four years. And those shots typically included inoculation against multiple strains. Not a very good batting average!

Your still fooling yourself and trying to fool others with those statements. Look... If logic and commons sense worked with these folks we would not be where we are today. You, of course, are free to approach this anyway you see fit - as do I.

My oldest son, from my first marriage, is 50 yo. He is/was an ardent Bernie Sanders advocate. And said no problem when the DNC submarined his candidate - again. We got into such a heated debate that I had to put my daddy foot down and force him to change the conversation. If I can't even get my own son to listen to reason and logic what chance am I going to have with total strangers? Anwser: 0 How much patience do I have with total strangers regarding this topic? Answer: Awww hell... I'll let you figure out the answer.

My kids are all hard headed and would argue with a stump (35 & up). I'm the same way and when it gets going they always say they got it from me and my response is the same, "It wasn't me, it must have been your mother as I still have all of my hardheaded genes"

I can't remember the last time I had the flu. It would be interesting to see how many in our system get the flu yearly

Show me how a mask that CANNOT filter particulates the size of virus will filter out a virus. It is a physical impossibility. WHY do you think that people that work with contagious viruses wear a full body suit with a self-contained air supply. In other words they are in an ISOLATED environment. Silly lack of rational thought.
When a person coughs, sneezes or even breathes or talks, they release droplets of saliva, mucus and cells from the membranes in the respiratory tract, which each contain innumerable viruses. We do not cough out individual viruses. A mask of any type will drastically reduce the amount of droplets going into the air. When a lab tech is working in a virus lab, they are working with concentrated distillates of the virus. So those precautions are needed.
So the mask will stop droplets, which is how the virus is spread in the community. And it takes many, many viruses to actually cause disease in a person. So if you can reduce droplets in the air, you can reduce infections.
Those are my rational thoughts. :)

So do we wear masks until viruses cease to exist or what? Who determines we don’t need masks any more, these liars that came up with this brilliant idea? Will everyone also wear masks until influenza is eradicated now that we are on a roll? Wasn’t there a flu season a few years ago that killed over 80,000 people in the US? Why didn’t we have mask mandates and declare a state of emergency then? Just questions...

There is just so much unknown about this virus. I believe once it is more understood and there is a vaccine, it will be better. We know how the flu acts. It mutates often, but we have meds for it that work. We don’t have much of an answer for this yet. Therefore we need to proceed with caution. I don’t have an answer for you, but I hope we will get answers soon.

So without a vaccine we wear masks year round? What good does a vaccine do if not everyone gets it? Why would healthy and young people get a vaccine if the death rates are so low and people under 40 get over it rather quickly? I think these are questions lots of people will be asking.
I think we should just let it ride and carry on like it doesn’t exist and it will be just another virus we live with like influenza. No one ever made a big deal before this year!

That’s the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. Somebody forcing me to do that woulda been shot on the spot.

even at that rationale, what good would it do around a hemorrhagic fever stricken individual that coughed in your face and it got in your eyes?

Cmon man, don’t be dumb. I was social distancing before it was a thing. I travel for work, and I really don’t like people that much anyways. Use your head. Keep your hands out of your face, you’ll be fine, which btw is impossible to do wearing a useless mask.

Do you need a safe space in which to social distance?

Rational, but perhaps short sighted. Simply put, it's not that simple. There's way more variables in that equation.

"Better than nothing?" Perhaps, perhaps not. I've seen plenty of Karen videos on both sides of this argument. Vapers blowing their peepee flutes straight through a mask, or people coughing in temps below the dew point showing differences in cloud size. I know you've probably graduated from being a doctor to a full blown virologist by now, but to many of the world it isn't smart to make sweeping policy edicts on "well it can't hurt, maybe."

The one recommendation that is well accepted, because it's easily personally verifiable, is washing your hands and keeping your mitts off your mug.

Common sense says "if you're sick, stay home" and we have the voluntary quarantine directives to support that. Apparently a cat print cotton mask can make it all good though, so sick mask people might as well be walking around around in public without causing an issue?

Long story short, while it "might help" I'm not buying into the hysteria. I think there's a whole lot more to be focusing on than a silly mask that we have very little basis to prove actual effectiveness.

    Some false logic here.

The mask may initially catch some of the moisture. But what happens as you continue to breath through that mask? The droplets are forced out in aerosol form by the pressure of your breath. And the virus in aerosol form from your breath passes straight through to begin with.

And for the 99th time. THIS AIN'T THE BLACK PLAGUE! The most credible studies show it is no worse than the flu (see the Stanford study for a truly scientific approach).

Why all the special precautions now? Politics.
