If you have a high end firearm or a really expensive home, take a look.

You know, it's not something everyone does, or notices, but some of the finer things in life go unnoticed to the uninitiated.

Sounds like a waste of both my and the carpenters time.

Is this really the crap people worry about these days? I’d rather have a good carpenter that just installs the door knob than a crappy carpenter that tells me how he “clocked the screws” in an effort to convince me he’s really going above an beyond. Meanwhile when I try to hang a shelf a couple years later the studs aren’t on centers as they should be so I have to find each one instead of just measuring over 16”. But at least the screws in my doorknobs are clocked.

Well, if we're gonna talk about the finer things in life, let's talk golf.

There used to be someone else here that used to do carpenter work in high end homes, but he hasn't been around in a while...

I spent a lot of time working on multi-million dollar homes for millionaires and billionaires, sooo, I know how to make stuff look good. I was a finish carpenter and they don't allow sloppy work. Wait???? JK. I'm not even that bad a shooter.

Sometimes, it's the little things that count. As a high end carpenter and an ametuer gunsmith, these are little details that the average person probably doesn't even notice, but, make a difference.

When working on multi-million dollar homes, we would align the screws on the door locks. A good gunsmith does the same thing.

The top shows wrong, the bottom right. View attachment 171758

No, a good gunsmith torques the screws to their proper torque value, not to have them line up.

As my grandfather once told me "Quality is never expensive". The tiny amount of time it takes to clock the screws in whatever, receptacle cover, cabinet hinge, door frame, is insignificant to pleasure derived from doing a job right. It will be more enjoyable for both the doer and the future viewer

Clocking a screw in metal isn't just about turning it more. A true craftsman will adjust the countersink to clock the screw and have it torqued properly.

It is an art and a science.
