I was planning to build hanging overhead storage in my garage, but I remembered we had a truss system and those are not designed for any additional weight or load.

So I'd like to put shelves in the same area, except now I'll need some sort of rail/bracket system lagged into the wall studs.

Any suggestions? Not looking to spend a ton of money but need it sturdy and presentable.
Thinking of maybe angle iron and painting it white. Just not sure if there's something out there that's super cool that I'm not familiar with

Something like this to minimize the wall footprint. I would use standard plywood or other types of boards as the shelf. Not opposed to building a wooden frame for the shelf, just unsure of what to use to affix it to the walls.

I just went ‘old school’ and used the metal ‘L’ brackets from Home Depot or Lowe’s and wide boards.
Same concept, I just want them inverted so they aren't underneath, if that makes sense
If that’s similar to what I had in CO, you can put 450 lbs per 4 ft section.
I wouldn't doubt it. too lazy to read about them since I'm not paying $230+ for 1 section.

just looked up the specs, 650lbs per 4ft. $211 at lowes.

Looks like I could fab something very similar up. Trick is finding the materials that minimize fab work and maximize aesthetics. The builder "accidentally" finished/textured/trimmed our garage so now I feel obligated to keep it looking decent.

Just realized you were in Ft. Worth. Bring the iron over here and I'll hook you up with the fab.

Just make sure the studs ARE on 4' center where you want to put it. Heck bring the wood, too, and we'll do it turnkey.

Edit: Heck, I even have the steel, now that I think about it.

Didn't you mention once you were near Marine Creek/Eagle Mtn/Lake Worth? I'm right between Saginaw & Eagle Mtn.

Stud distance shouldn't matter too much if I'm cutting lumber to fit. 47"... 49".. who knows nowadays.

I'll definitely get with you when I'm ready. We've been here a year and I'm barely finishing the kitchen. Next week, next year, same difference lol.

Yeah, I'm just saying if we build it to fit, we need to know the centers, whatever they are. I'm in White Settlement. PM me whenever you get ready.

My name and address have already been posted, but, I'll give you my phone #s.

I spent a lot of time working on multi-million dollar homes for millionaires and billionaires, sooo, I know how to make stuff look good. I was a finish carpenter and they don't allow sloppy work. Wait???? JK. I'm not even that bad a shooter.

Timely thread...I just bought a 10' x 12' Derksen lofted barn and am going to be building some shelves. I like the look of the Rhino Shelf as shown and it looks to be fairly easy to duplicate with comparable materials.

yeah, hard product to sell when it's a couple pieces of metal and lag screws. Must be some killer instructions and decals included.

Also keep an eye on craigslist. Sometimes you can find someone getting new cabinets that just want the old ones hauled off.

They should look good enough even if you have to paint them, and the upper ones are already designed to be mounted to a stud wall.

They also allow you to just throw stuff in there without having to worry about keeping it all neat looking.

Depending on how much shelving you need, you could use a rail and bracket system like I used in our pantry. Various parts and heavier duty options are available at home improvement stores.

You could go with a rail per stud if you have heavy stuff to put on there and the boards or metal shelves can be used.

These are very versatile systems with tons of options.

Some of the systems have a double rail and double hooks.

But honestly this single system with rails every 16" will hold a lot of weight. A man could lay on it and not come close to breaking it.

    Worth a look anyways.
