I was out of town today and was driving back this evening when my wife called. She got home and let the dog out like she normally does, but the dog bolted towards the neighbors side of the yard. When she looked over there she saw that the neighbor had decided to tear down the fence that we share without telling us. The wife went over to ask what happened to the fence. The guy says "I'm getting a new fence!" and my wife asks when will they be done and he said maybe Sunday or Monday, then said "You got a problem with that?" His wife was right there as well and she said "Don't mind him; he's being a poopyhead." He's a 50-something drunk asshole, not a 3-yo poopyhead... After that little exchange it sounded like my wife BS'ed with her for a little bit because she had all kind of nonsense about the neighborhood to relay to me. She sounds nosy just like her husband is.

After I got home I tended to the ducks and then hung out in the backyard for a little bit in what would normally be privacy but now isn't. While they have their fences all down a few other nosy neighbors stopped by to gawk. You can now see strait into our backyard from the side street. One lady even walked over with the neighbor wife to where they could see the porch of the guy who lives behind us, and they were talking about all the junky stuff on his back porch which was previously obscured by the the fence they tore down.

I just don't understand why people are so nosy and concerned with other people's business. Who cares if the guy with the junky porch is apparently a hoarder (one of those stupid things she told my wife). He's a fantastic neighbor because he doesn't bother anyone. You can't even see his stuff with the fences up...

One of the things my wife mentioned to the neighbor wife was that since she didn't know about the fence being gone, she had to stop our dog from just bolting out into the neighborhood. The neighbor wife told her that they thought we had a chainlink fence and that she had to get their little yappy dog out of our yard as well. They are nosy as hell and know we don't have a chainlink fence. Also you would know as soon as you took the first board off that there wasn't another fence on other side. Who knows how long their dog was in my backyard harassing the ducks, because it was obvious that the dude wasn't interested in controlling their dog. The ducks are another issue. Normally if I'm just a work I let them roam free in the backyard. They were only in their pen because I was out of town. I'm sure dude was expecting them to be loose when he tore the fence down.

Damn. I'd be very, very, very clear with his contractor that any violation of the survey boundaries will result in a lawsuit and that they can only work from his side of the property. He wants to be a dick, hold him to it.

By contractors you mean two additional drunk idiots that were helping him? My wife had asked me who actually owns the fence and I told her we'd have to get a survey to know for sure, and I don't really think it's worth it. If they aren't done by Monday I'm going to go pick up some t-posts, drive them in ad just run some chicken wire. It'll look good and redneck for them to gab about. Still perfectly within city code, however. I did notice that his garden shed backs right up against the fence-line they share with the alleged hoarder guy. Seems a bit odd that someone so anal about other people's stuff that he wouldn't have the proper set-back for his shed.

Sounds like quite the situation there Dan.

A good neighbor would tell you he was tearing the fence down. A good neighbor in return would offer to help rebuild said fence.

But when neighbor one is a douche about it it makes it hard to be neighborly.

Set up game cameras, or put a cheap security camera where it obviously points right at the area they are working on the fence.

Yeah I would have gladly helped him before he had cussed me out and called me a liar, but not any more. There wasn't anything wrong with the fence anyways. The boards had turned all grey and old looking, but the posts were still sturdy and upright. If it was just an appearance thing he could have fixed that without tearing the whole thing down.

Might be fun to rent this house out to section 8.

    TheDan, one thing right quick.
Did you ever get that haircut?
I got a trim, but that made it grow even more. It's well past my shoulders now ;)

Suburbia stinks... I do want to move but will have to wait a few more years.

I have a camera in the backyard now, but it pointed towards the side of the yard where the gate is, opposite of the jerk neighbor. I can't really move that one without much effort, but the thought had crossed my mind.

Yesterday the neighbor came over to bitch me out about our yard. He had a valid point; I admitted the yard was overgrown... I told him sorry and I'll cut it later that day, but he replied "no sorry, tell me why you let it get like this." I told him it just wasn't a high priority for me, but told him again I'd take care of it. He then got even more hostile and started asking me what I do for a living. I told him and then he calls me a liar. Made some remark about having three cars but can't pay someone to cut the yard, then he said I needed to cut my hair and the yard and wandered off.

So I cut the yard later that day and he comes out and says thanks. I say, "You're welcome, but what was the deal with you calling me a liar earlier?" We basically went through the whole thing again and he says I can't tell him what I actually do. Its not my fault if he cant get it... Never even attempted to apologize to me.

What is really disappointing is I've never had a problem with this guy before. He always seemed friendly. The dude is disabled and doesn't work. All he does all day is mow his lawn and get drunk in his driveway. I've never bothered him about anything even though he does questionable shit at times and his little dog barks incessantly at me through the fence. I thought he was a decent enough neighbor, but now he's just another $#@! I have to ignore. A nosy and jealous one at that.
    He needs to get laid.

I'd just let it get super high and when he bitches tell him he can either cut it for me or start paying my bills before he tells me how to run my own house.

    Are you in a HOA?
lol no... It is in the city limits so there are some restrictions, but they are pretty mild. Couple people on our street have chickens. A guy two streets behind us has a donkey. We can hear him braying sometimes. I always laugh when I hear it... such a funny sound.

Yard thing is solved I suppose. Wife hired a guy to cut it every couple of weeks. I was going to cut it myself because I'm cheap, but she didn't want me to have to deal with it because I work like 12hrs a day and she doesn't have time either because she's working and going to school at the same time, too.
