Found this bottle sitting in a 5 seat hotel bar. Had to knock the dust off it.

Yes MGP has been a massive supplier for years now.Friend of mine bought me a way overpriced "Texas" something whiskey. Not good at all. Turns out lots of the things on the store shelf are made by these folks:

Buy their stuff wholesale, ship it to a bottler, labeler, do the legal / tax requirements and then you are in business.

The curiosity for Pappy’s Bourbon has captured me for a while. I just don’t know what justifies its price & demand. If I was sure it wasn’t counterfeit I might throw down $80 for a pull. Man that’s expensive lol. I wonder if they’d accept offers on a pull?
“I’ll give you $50 and I’ll wash the dishes”.
PVW and Old Rip are different brands under Buffalo Trace, both distilled by Sazerac. In the early days, $80 would buy a bottle of Old Rip.
I think Old Rip is a better value.
ETA: Buffalo Trace knows Bourbon, how to promote bourbon, and how to limit supply after driving demand. They’ll start reasonable and large quantities, get some market share, then limit supply while working on other stuff, which drives demand on the bourbon secondary market.
W L Weller is distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery as well. That's my go to for bourbon.
The Pappy's and a few others were kick started to 30,000 feet by the TV show "Justified".
And not that many years ago, well 15...Weller was just another brand in a plastic bottle.

Yeah there was that period when Weller came in the plastic containers. Wasn't crazy about them at all. My introduction to Weller was well over forty years ago.
Bulleit is my go-to. Reasonable price, not sweet, not oakey or smokey.Picked up a bottle of Bulliet 8 year old last weekend. Gotta say, I really enjoyed a couple glasses on the patio on Saturday night.
