I was looking at available 5.56x45mm M855 ammo at Target sports USA. Saw an old offering for 1k rds. of Fiocchi M855 for $289.95, or 8% less for Ammo+ members. Made me shed a tear or three.

Those prices are probably just like my youth, gone forever.

And the days of buying bricks of 22LR for $20
I guess I am quite a bit older than you because I remember $10.00 bricks of Blazer 22 LR, and one time a guy selling them for $9.00 per brick at a a gun show in NY in the late 1990s and a couple to a few bucks less in the 1980s. Wish I had bought a few cases of bricks and still had them. They were quite a deal when you think of it but of course, I made less money then.

I have 2 boxes of Western .357 that are so old they lack UPC numbers and are priced using a sticker gun. They are like $5;00 and change.
I remember buying .357 and .45acp for about $6.00 a box. I decided to get an RCBS press before they hit $7.00 a box. It didn't save any money but gave more shooting at the range.

I started reloading when I was 15 or 16. And buying into the equipment wasn’t bad as I remember it. Components where cheap to. It was a good trade off of reloading enough for the next outing. My dad said that he could shoot his 1911 from the hip, because Uncle Sam was buying the ammo. That was one of my goals that got me into reloading. Next thing I know I was working 40 hours and still in High School. I never achieved from the hip like my dad. He was just happy in knowing in 2 more years he would be rid of me.
