It's a fascinating, inspirational story. Delve into it some time; it'll warm your heart. Except at the end, where the Brits destroyed most of the guns but that was basically expected.I'd never heard of this. Don't know if it's true, but would like to think so.
Where did this come from? It's a fascinating, inspirational story. Delve into it some time; it'll warm your heart. Except at the end, where the Brits destroyed most of the guns but that was basically expected.
I was replying to Bigguy who said he had never heard of the way US civilians donated guns to Britain before we were officially in the war. Those guns went to individuals in the Home Guard (?) and would have been used by ordinary folks to defend their homes against Germans if the Axis had managed to invade the British Isles. Heck, there were even studies done about how far away a .22 LR could be effective against troops and the results were widely disseminated among British civilians because so many of the rifles going over were 22s. (IIRC, the conclusion was "Don't shoot at anyone more than 200m away" but closer than that, a good hit can take a soldier out of the fight.)Where did this come from?
Don't disrespect Radar.
