I've seen a lithium laptop battery fail and turn a laptop into a misshapen donut of plastic and metal. That means that what I've seen is minuscule in comparison to this. I can't imagine dying that way but being in an inescapable confined space with a battery that size when it decides to fail has got to be an awful way to leave this world.
