Can't wait for some nitwit in a sweater vest with no badge, no patches, or readily identifiable uniform to get their ass whipped (just enough to scare them, no long term injuries or death) to show what a monumentally stupid idea this is.
They should at least have a uniform - even if its a damn rainbow colored shirt and tan slacks - so that people know that its someone on official business and not a random weirdo. That scenario that played out in Floriduh could go all Uno Reverse - the unarmed social workers show up, person on the inside can't see they're "from the government and here to help" and winds up blasting them. I bet the idiots will show up and stand right in front of the damn door too (for everyone still upset the Floriduh cop didn't stand in view of the peephole - that's a fucking kill zone and even security guards and kids in LE explorer programs are taught not to stand in front of a door when making contact with people, that's why you announce who you are loudly...)
Maybe they should just push to make all cops have psychology degrees, and starting pay for the po-leece should be about $150k a year and top out at a quarter-mil for a veteran beat cop since they want first responder psychologists / psychiatrists. Ultimately you still need people with body armor and guns when the nutjobs are armed and dangerous. There is no getting around that.
