What are you guys using for equipment? I havent taken my DSLR out in years, mostly because I don’t usually feel like carrying it around. I sometimes debate on starting to use it again or maybe upgrading to something new.
I have pretty much migrated over to mirrorless. Nikon Z6II, Z8, and Z9, but still have a D850 that sees regular use. In fact, it is being used today.

When I was last into photography, I was using a Nikon FM2 film camera. I had a few Tamron Adaptall 2 lenses for it along with a micro-Nikkor macro lens. That was ages ago. I could not afford a digital once they became popular, both SLR film cameras & accessories and film became harder to find as did places that developed film also became rarer; although, there apparently has been a resurgence of both to some degree.

Don't recall if the last one was set up by me with someone else snapping it or if I set the camera on its tripod and set the timer.

    HATING the LCD viewfinder.
That's been my attitude toward every one of them I've ever used. But I haven't looked through a new one in quite a while. So...

...have LCD viewfinders gotten good or are you just tolerating them?

The electronic viewfinders on my Z6II and E-M1X are fairly decent but not quite the clarity of an optical viewfinder. Now with that said, the advantages are focus peaking in the viewfinder, a better representation of what the exposure looks like, and being able to zoom in on a particular spot for focus/exposure without having to use live view.

There is a longer delay when the camera is asleep or turned off and you turn it on or touch a button to wake it up before you can see your subject in the viewfinder.

The image in the viewfinder at times seems to be a bit over digitized in appearance, I need to see if I can adjust the contrast in the EVF view.

Another challenge is if you are taking a long series of shots at a high frame rate (think action like sporting event, an auto race or air show) you tend to see a stuttered view of the subject and it can make following the subject harder as there is a delay in what you see. That is typically not an issue with a DSLR and an optical view finder. Ensuring you have image review turned off for the EVF (if it is even an option for your camera)will help reduce this effect.
