Damnit! I liked the place. Now I don't need to carry much ammo when I go to Lubbock : (
    Not happy!

I spoke to the new owner on Sunday May 6th he told me he was not going to open it again to the public. He will be using it for competitions in the near future. So sad now the public doesn't have an out side place to go.

I don't understand the reasoning behind this. Competition only? I'm no expert here, but that seems like it would be pretty hard to make a profit on that.

    Thank God I'm moving.

Ive seen ranges do this, where they close to the public and become private members only place that only open to the public for a large fee for competitions.

Did you happen to ask if they planned on making it a "Members Only" type of place? Depending on cost of membership it might still be a viable location.

I've been told it will be open only to insured clubs who can go at a scheduled time once per week. Not sure how they will charge though.

I really don't see this working out for the new owner.I bet he will end up changing his business model or will be going broke.
Been there and it is families and individuals that are there enjoying it.

Can you even shoot rifles at the indoor range on 51 st? This blows big time. Bought a bunch of .223 ammo and now I can't shoot it. This city just keeps getting suckier and suckier. Guess I'll just drive down some empty county road and shoot at hay bales in the the fields.

It will not be reopened as a public range. It will be a private ranch with some club shooting.
It was purchased by the Betenboughs.

$300/yr is about how much I paid to go shoot their anyways.

    Roughly 2 hrs per trip x 2 trips per month = $20-$25/month.

We'll see what happens when they finally open up.

Yes, I would be interested in becoming an investor is a quality outdoor range in the Lubbock are. I ran across Dub, the previous owner of Rustic Range, today at Sam's in Lubbock and he confirmed it had been sold and, at 74, he just wanted to retire and relax a little. I used to shoot at Rustic range almost every week for a couple of hours and found it a lot of fun.
