A 40 and a 9mm handgun are basically the same except for the bullet dia. Not a damn thing wrong with the 40 cal.
More people are killed with a 22.Well, heck. If we're just going to choose self defense guns on ammo price go with .22.
{Now someone reply with the obligatory comment on how many people are killed by .22.}
Me like metal. Just brought home a Springfield Range Office in 9mm. Pic will follow.
Don't forget 9mm comes with hair ties to make a man bun.A 40 and a 9mm handgun are basically the same except for the bullet dia. Not a damn thing wrong with the 40 cal.
I'm willing to pay a little more each month (shooting more than 500 a month) to carry a .45..22 is not a duty caliber.
If you jyst go out and shoot 50 or 100 rounds a year, no big deal
But if you do 500 per month or more, it adds up real quick
That is your opinion.It has the right balance of attributes that a pistol cartridge needs
Thanks, glad we got that out of the way.More people are killed with a 22.
That is your opinion.
Capacity, recoil, and cost per round are extremely minimal, if at all. Check out each of those factors.
I believe .32acp predates 9mm by a few years.9mm is the oldest auto loading pistol cartridge that is still in use.
If it wasn't such a good design, we wouldn't be talking about it

For clarity 9x19 is great or it wouldn't be a NATO round and so popular everywhere.

Won't even start pointing out the holes in that logic. {You started that yourself in your post just above.}
Somethings are old and still used because they are effective.
Other things are old and still used because of inertia and accountants (e.g., lots of production so they are cheap).
For self defense, the 9 is a mediocre round with a lot of company. Heck, the French like 9 mm.
The French? Only idiots mock the French. Look at WW1 and tell me an "only dropped once" joke. They are the reason we exist as a nation. As far as their use of 9mm, they weren't using it till the 1950's.
9mm has stood the test of time, period. Amd do you really want to talk about all the wonder cartridges that competed with 9mm and failed to overtake it? 10mm, .40, .45gap, .357 sig, .41ae, etc, even .45 acp has withered away.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
You can lke your .45acp 1911 all you want, it doesn't make you correct
Talk to me about those French in WW2. Only idiots defend the actions of the French nation in WW2. {I can name call too, if you want to visit the grade school playground.}
If you think the .45 ACP has withered away, well not much I can do for you.
If you think the 9 mm is the most effective self defense round, you need to lay off the koolaid even if you are a fanboy.
Feel free to have the last word.
.........
Yes, .45 acp has withered away, very few new designs in that caliber, many 1911 makers have even introduced 9mm and 10mm 1911's to keep up sales.
.....................
Bitter, bitter.
....................
Its even to the point where many high end 1911 custom shops are starting to work on beretta's, glocks, high powers...
