By "just as good" is the wrong way to look at it, it should be "just as bad"

No duty caliber is creating hydrostatic shock, so all that matters is expansion (with modern JHP's, there is little difference), capacity (9mm wins) recoil impulse (9mm wins, .380 recoils less, but only a few select loads will expand while offering good penetration) and cost per round.

9mm doesn't do the best, it just sucks less, because the extra little bit of power you get out of a .40 or .45 #1, doesn't matter, and #2, costs you things that DO matter.

Stoping power is the single most retarded thing on earth.

It's a dying caliber. Companies aren't making new guns in the caliber, ammo production is slowing down and moving to 9mm because the FBI figured out what the civilian market knew 20 years prior, which is that pistol calibers suck.

The only market .40 has now is 9mm conversion barrels.

I have heard from a few sources that .40 is slowly making a comeback with some agencies.

Might as well go with .380 ACP since it seems to be as good as 10mm now according to the experts.

So we get .40 cal. guns cheaper, ammo cheaper, but it's at least as effective at 9mm. ? Sounds like a deal to me.

I handload so it's a heck of a deal for me regarding cheaper guns and ammo (that can also take 9m mags, etc. if I want to convert).

Slowly making a comeback? Its been 2 years if that when nearly every agency sold off their .40's for 9's.

If an agency is still using .40, it's because they probably bought their guns before the FBI changed their stance

Nobody who is an actual expert is saying .380 is as good as 10mm. That said one or two .380 loads out there that provide reliable expansion and penetration. The big issue is that there aren't many firearm options for .380 outside subcompacts

Im sorry but .40 is dying. It was a compromise made by idiots who thought pistols are an appropriate choice for fighting dudes with rifles
