Did somebody really say high performance and Harley together, lol

20% gains from an exhaust? Dyno sheets?

Actually, the damn things are tuned so lean to make the EPA happy that pipes and a carb rejet could actually net you 20% on the pre-fuel injection models.

The fuelies almost woke up that much with the Screaming Eagle Street Tuners, which is why almost everyone bought them. Which is why the EPA just nailed Harley on them. Oops.

Yep my bike was factory lean for emissions and had some shit on the muffler about sound level requirements and emissions. Even sucked hot air from between the cylinders.

New intake, new exhaust, and a base model fuel management module made a big difference in the feel. That's just on a 950, I imagine the difference would be greater as displacement increases.

Never got mine on a dyno, didn't want to spend the money for it.

9: 1 compression ratio is about all an engine can handle with the kind of crap fuel that we have on the market, today. When I posted that "high performance" reference, I didn't know that he had the 882 engine.

My Sportster is an XL1200C with the Buell cam and it will spit all over you with cheap fuel. The op 2006 882 has a compression ratio of 8.89 and a test pressure of 125 to 140 psi.

My 1200cc engine has a compression ratio of 9.7 and a test pressure of 200 to 225 psi. Perhaps his engine could function on regular fuel. The 1200 needs premium fuel.

Regarding high performance, I used to laugh at similar references being attached to HD bikes but I've had 30 bikes in 52 years and I LOVE the Sportster over all of my dual over head cam rice burners. It all depends on what you want.

Would my Sportster run with the other bikes that I've owned? Not a chance! But returning to two valve push rod engines suited me just fine.

it is a 2017 not a 2006 and the compression ratio is 9:1 on the 883 not the 882 fyi

It is fuel injected not carbed

I'm not well versed on Harleys or bikes in general, but my Camaro runs fine on cheap gas with a 11.5:1 static compression ratio. Runs better on 93 of course.

Found a use fat boy from 2010 for sale with decent mileage. Assuming all maintenance paperwork is logged with the bike, I may go take a gander and come home with it.

sweet ride! ive been looking at them for a couple weeks. hows it ride?

With the EVO rubber mounted twin on my 1200C Sportster with belt drive, vibration is minimal. It's a very comfortable ride!

The older solid mount engines with chain drive always made me feel like some giant monster was gnawing at my ass!

Regarding compression ratios, where the cheap gas causes problems is in traffic at a stop light. That motionless air cooled twin is getting hotter by the second and, as you prepare to take off, it coughs, spits and misses. Premium fuel eliminates a lot of those problems.

    883? Yup, you're right. I stand corrected.

Went to two dealers within 25 miles and seems like Harley isn't interested in selling bikes. Told one dude what I wanted and he tries to up-sell me after numerous times of me telling him no. He started to talk loans and APR and I walked. Either sell me the bike I want or I am gone. Another dude at the other dealer was more professional but didn't seem to want to check what he had in stock versus what his website and others knew they had. I sent a follow up email to him and haven't received a response back.

I guess I can go to the Indian dealer and go buy an Indian, I'm sure they want to make some money after being revived since their last fallout. Polaris has seemed to really put out some good engines for them and they are liquid cooled. I really want a Harley but their dealers act as if they couldn't care less.

If I end up driving that far I would probably just get a trailer and haul the thing home. I'm going to give Waco and Round Rock a try and see what happens. Worst comes to worst, I guess I am making a 3 hour trip to Houston then. If I go that route though, I'm expecting out the door pricing or I will just wait indefinitely until I find something pre-owned or elsewhere. Bottom line is I have cash but am willing to finance if it gives the dealer their kickback and I get the price I want. I'll just end up paying off the loan the next month or so.
