That may or may not be true. It would be dependent upon the modification made and whether or not it was determined to be an unsafe one that at least in part lead wrongly to the death of a person. That is true of any mechanical device that later winds up being the cause of death in a homicide or of injury in an injury tort claim. It is essentially the same as for failing to maintain a mechanical device, in proper working order, as well.

To my knowledge this has never come up in a trial, writers like Asyoob have proselytized this theory but it's just an opinion. If the shoot was justified it doesn't matter, if not then there are bigger problems.

Sadly, people that have never shot a shotgun don't realize that a double barrel just might knock a small person on their butt. Especially if shot within a couple seconds of each other.

I don't know even how to research it but. We were taught at U of H Criminal Justice that both hot reloads and trigger jobs have been cited in court cases by both defense lawyers and prosecutors'.
