They want that kind of info from me I will just show them the tip.
I'm saying in general, pay cash. They probably aren't saying squat to people, just quietly keeping a log or spooling off the report at the end of the day. Much of this information is already being collected, we are just now becoming aware of the state asking for it.

Next time you visit a restaurant, look at your receipt. Your server's name/id# are on it, as is a table number. If you paid with a CC, your name and redacted # is on it. That's everything they need.

    Dont take your cell phone.
Depending on your phone and your usage habits, it may or may not be a big deal.

So there's 'anti tracking' tech built into most recent phones, where they will randomize their WiFi and Bluetooth MAC addresses while probing. But you also need to be careful about what networks and devices you passively allow your device to connect with. For instance, a lot of Comcast users install the mobile provisioning profile that lets your phone automatically and securely connect to any "xfinity" network it sees while out in the world - which is a lot. Those connections are known and logged, and any time your phone is connected to any WiFi (or bluetooth) device, it will transmit it's real MAC. Likewise with BT devices. Do you enjoy those little douche nozzles in your ear? You're visible. Do you have a paired smart watch? Visible. Use the business' "free" WiFi? Visible.

Then of course there's the willingness of the carrier to sell off your location information ;)

All of your precautions are futile comrades; party faithful and the technology companies already provide the needed information.

Depending on the number of cell towers, type of service (4G, LTE, or 5G), wi-fi and/or Bluetooth connection requests it’s easy to get a very access geolocation of any given device.

City of Ausin is one ‘test’ case away from applying for a court order to obtain that information, and is chomping at the bit for a new ‘blip’ to justify going after it.

    All to keep you safe.

Oh and dont forget your car may have a cell service or roving wifi hand shakes. If not now they will soon.

If it has GPS a certain amount of info is stored in the "crash recorder" and computer.

We've allowed it to happen to our selves.

Yay for front license plates too. Facial recognition software hates masks though. Might be the only good reason to wear one.

How about just in reference to the restaurant info grab that we are talking about?
All those items can connect to open wifi and are logged. Does the restaurant have open wifi? Probably yes.

The point is the gooberment sucks up and swallows data like a 50 dollars whore. It won't be long till it's so easily cross checked that... well judgement day?

If the restaurants are collecting what is asked for, they could have better info that’s more easily obtainable than the data captured through card transactions.

For me, it’s not about what they’re collecting, it’s that this order, enforceable with civil and criminal penalties, requires businesses owners to act as agents of the state in order to legally operate.

    How would this be done?

I thought you were referring to some "nefarious" way.
Having read the order, City of Austin is not saying how to capture the info, just to capture the info. I would guess most places will just consider their receipt information sufficient to meet the intent of the order. Others may use a technology solution...sign in with Google/FB/Apple to make your reservation. Some may just put a guest register up front, some will say

to the city and just be done with it.

It's the City of Austin that has the ability to sue phone companies and ISPs for data. If your phone is on, it can be located. Remember too, both Apple and Google have been actively sharing location data with governments, though it's supposedly sanitized before release. A court order is all it will take to get the full data.
