I got to our larger LGS. They had the pps m1 40. And they had several sig 320 used. They had the xd40 compact and standard used. The new stuff included cz sp01. Would love that and they had a m&p 40 pro.
They would give me $400 for my glock against any of those options, which they were somewhat over priced on.

I have a couple of .40s and I like them very much. I don't understand the issue with them. Anyway, I have a Kahr CW40 that is my carry weapon. It is a nice, inexpensive, easily concealable pistol with a horrible trigger pull. It shoots well enough and if anything should happen to it, legal otherwise, it wouldn't break my heart.

I also have a Daewoo DH40 that I like a whole lot. It is a quality weapon that shoots really nice and was not too expensive (I have a very limited gun budget). Those are hard to find these days but I can recommend them.

My daughter had a really nice Sig 239 that was a terrific shooter, but is a little more expensive. Also, my son got the M&P Shield that seems to be really nice.

As a non-fan of Glocks I cannot endorse any of those. Good luck

I had a sig 2022 that ended up going to a close friend as he was working in a remote area and needed some protection. I reload 40 s&w and actually like the round.
Now I am in the mood to get something in 40 again.
The glock line comes to mind as I have a glock 45 in my eclectic assortment of firearms which includes Walthers, cz, sig, Taurus and rock island semiautomatics.
Only Smith semiautomatic I own is the m&p 22 compact. So the m&p might be a reasonable option.
The previous generation of walther pps, which I carry in 9, had a 40 but thinking it had dependability issues.
Love cz but finding a 40 might be difficult.
Suggestions sought. Price is a factor as this would be a play thing and perhaps a glove box gun.

Actually, found a small gunshop here that has a Sig 2022 in 40. We think we are going to be pretty close in trade values. So I am heading out to look at after lunch. My previous 2022 was a good shooter and solid. So that would meet my needs. He has two XDs as well in 40.

Hopefully your experience with them are better than mine. I have owned two of the Sig Pro 2340 / 2022 series guns - I had a first gen in .357Sig - was not a fan after the first range outing. The magazines rattled and pinched my pinky, and that gun seemed overly snappy and unpleasant to shoot vs other guns in .40 and .357Sig I'd shot.

I had a 2022 in 9mm that was alright, I dunno why but I could not shoot that gun very accurately compared to the P226, P225, or 220 (.45, not one of the 9mm) - so I sold it off and moved on to a gun that I shot better. The mag fit on the 2022 was much improved vs the original Sig Pro 2340 I had. I loved the feel and the fit & finish, and I think they're great blends of polymer wonder guns and classic hammer fired DA guns, I wish they shot better in my hands.

The Sig sp2022 appeared to be in good shape and was clean. Really clean after I got it home and field stripped it. He had a couple of other 40s including two new xds but I stuck to my guns and kept cash outlay down. He traded me for $40 with the Glock 30. I am fine with that. Plus it was nice doing business locally. I was looking at $130 difference if I had gone the XD route. He had a dan Wesson model 15 revolver with 6 inch barrel that was sure nice. Thankfully wife was with me and I already own one.
I believe this to be a newer version of the sig pro I had before.
It sort of reminds me of the cz p07 I have blending polymer base with metal slide.

I also like the .40 S&W, but prefer the .357 Sig round. The .40 works well and is very effective but many agencies have retired them because they have very stout recoil compared to 9mm so smaller and less-trained officers have trouble shooting them. I've owned and shot SIG Sauers, Berettas, S&Ws, Brownings, USPs, CZ75s, Glocks, Kahrs and others in .40 S&W. Well-made guns all; all shoot well. The smaller guns tend to be stout recoiling (i.e. Kahr P40s and PM40s etal.). My preference for .40 S&W is for SIG Sauer P226s and P229s, S&Ws and Berettas, but its really your choice. I would advise handling all guns to see how they feel and balance in the hand first and look for anything that would rub against your hand or fingers under recoil. Glocks & Springfield XDs, tend to rub blisters on my trigger finger after about 25 rounds, for example.

I always like the Beretta 92's and really wanted a Beretta 96. I found one for sale on this forum for a good price and snatched it up. I shot it twice, figured out I really hated it, and sold it within a week.

Years ago I found a Beretta 96 Vertec at a gunshow for about $320. It was a great deal for a excellent condition Beretta and loved it at first. I maybe put 3 mags down the pipe before I gave up on it. Complete jam-o-matic and just a real disappointment. Maybe 96s just suck, my 2 Beretta 92FS have been awesome.

Yep the 226 looks like a swell firearm. Looking around seems I got an ok deal on my fde version...not sure what fde stands for and am looking forward to loading up some 40 this weekend. Might look at getting a 9mm barrel and mag for it in the near future.
Might break down and check out the range open in my area and see how "safe" it is. My wife is somewhat culpable to infection and so avoiding taking chances.

    Gunz are icky.
Today the Moonpie went hunting&gathering for some 10mm ammo for the Ruger GP-100.
    None to be found.
What I did find was some .40S&W.
So now I can shoot my 10mm revolver with 10mm Short & Weak.

You might consider the Ruger GP-100 Match Champion in 10mm.
Nice revolver that can utilize two different rounds.
