I would not think a church would run a background check on one of its congregation that volunteered for the security team.

Possible, but not smart on their part. The misdemeanor may not show up, but running a BGC seems like simple CYA before letting someone represent you in a formal setting. My MIL had a BGC run to volunteer as a Sunday school teacher.

Interesting, but would that not show up in a background check? One would assume a church setting up a security apparatus would run BGC on the folks applying.
That would be a Class C misdemeanor, I believe. He would still be able to get a LTC. LTC's are pretty much like showing you are a card carrying good guy. You need a Class B or A to not get a LTC. So if he had an LTC, then the church may have bypassed the background check because the state already said they trusted him to carry a gun.

    Gunz are icky.
A number of years ago a very similar situation occurred at the Freeport Texas harbor.
At one of the more remote “guard shack” a young man on duty as a guard had managed to get his girlfriend to come visit in the middle of the night. While she was there he was displaying his newly acquired handgun. While fingerbanging it he managed to ND a round into himself.
Now mind you, weapons were strictly forbidden on the property.
In an attempt to CYA he notified command some “middle-eastern” people had attacked his position.
    Shooting him in the leg.
This of course set off an enormous response from all manner of law enforcement agencies. Including the FEEB’s. Things got thick real quick.
Dude lied to cover his dumbassery.
When the po-po discovered what happened they buried the dumbash.

If a church nursery or Sunday school have requirements anything like a daycare then the church really doesn’t have a choice for the BG check.

Something's off about this. My cousin knows the pastor (she's a pastor in the Austin area) and he was pretty adamant that not only did it happen, but they saw the guys on video before the dude went out to see what they were up to.

And now suddenly it's a hoax? Hmmmm...
If that is true... it's very troublesome. So did the video disappear?

I don't know. I never saw it. I saw my cousin's comments and a shared post from the pastor in Burnet about the situation. So either he was spinning a tale out of whole cloth or the Feebs stepped in and changed the story.
Either is possible; and that either are possible really sux.
My gut goes with feeb tamping. We're at that point.

Thank goodness the Church Security member was alert and engaged the Basturds before they could get sat up. No one was injured and the two Perpetrators got away but will hopefully be apprehended and interrogated.

Why is this still up. The church security member made it up and you fell for it.
Check your sources. Sheesh. Come on Texas Gun Talk.

Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd confirmed that there were no hostile actions directed at the church or the safety team member, and no weapons were brandished towards the church. The safety of the church was never in jeopardy.

Sheriff Boyd expressed frustration over the fabricated incident, stating that it wasted valuable resources and drew significant attention from state and federal authorities.

I am sure the church will make the video public.
