Alright, now this is the place to talk politics lol. I am a disaffected conservative democrat (not actually conservative, just conservative in comparison to the modern day mainstream democrats, and to the right of 95% of them). I try and choose each of my beliefs, (whether anyone likes them or not), based on what I like rather than anything else. I am pro gun, I am pro life, and I am anti gay. But I am also pro higher taxes for the big, pro immigration, and anti confederate monument. Right wingers call me far left, left wingers call me far right. I am now a political orphan, with my favorite modern day politician being Joe Manchin (although obviously still not a perfect match). I have extreme disdain for both parties and both biden and trump. In the past I have mostly voted for democrats for office, but republican endorsements for a lot of referendums. I voted for Biden, and am undecided about regretting it for now still, but I view it as a lesser evil. If the republicans pick someone other than Trump, I will probably vote for them in 2024. This year’s midterms I will be splitting my ticket. That is all for now.

Update: Thank most of you for being firm in your disagreements, yet civil. This thread blew up beyond what I expected, so I apologize if I don’t answer everything, I am only one person. Also from this point, I will only be answering new questions, as otherwise it would lead to endless repetition when the answers are already here. I appreciate your understanding in advance

IF you cast your vote for any democrat on the state or national elections going forward, you're voting for continuing the destruction of our Republic. If the Republican candidate doesn't suit you - at least do libertarians (which it sounds like your beliefs line up more with than with demoncrats) a favor and cast your ballot for them - so they have a shot at garnering enough support to get invited to the national debates.

You probably won't find anyone here praising you for voting or identifying as a democrat though - lots of libertarians, lots of republicans, lots of independents - none would give a pat to any democrat, even Joe Manchin. Hell - most of us can't stand half the RINO Republicans in office that are all to willing to sell us out, like Senator Cornhole Coryn or Mitch McConnell.

well i did ask for it literally in this thread so I’m not complaining. All I’ll say to this is the exact inverse could apply with an independent socialist saying you are neither pro immigration or pro tax the rich if you split your ticket etc. Part of being this way these days are both sides hate you, and we are few in numbers. If you ever have a moment to reflect on what our country is, and what made it so great, all the men and women who sacrificed to build it, defend it with no instant gratification of the internet and keyboard, providing you ever had the chance to study our history, you wouldn't have such a problem choosing a side. Most of us here remember the time when Dems and Repubs could cuss and discuss during the day in Congress then go have a few drinks after work and even attend each other's birthday parties for their grandkids. But they had one huge thing in common-they loved our country. These yahoos now in the Dem party called "progressives, Leftists" actually hate our country and the way it was founded, our capitalism, morals, statues, rights, our flag and Constitution. The "squad" is an example amongst so many others.

If you prefer to respect people, then choose your side and live with it.

I’m going to start with your anti confederate view. Typically when people feel this way they have an incorrect view of reality and history. If you don’t know already: the civil war wasn’t about freeing slaves. Lincoln and the north used that as a political tool and were very racist. To this day democrats and even republicans don’t understand what really caused the war. Insane taxes and overreaching sounds familiar, huh?

Let’s talk about statues you don’t agree with. Tearing them down is as bad as book burning. We can’t be scared little assholes and pretend the past didn’t happen. What does that teach?

See, if others as you would believe, want to live in the past by having a statue, and if those people as you may or may not believe are so terrible, then let them show everyone what the intent is. It isn’t up to you dude. Have you ever met and talked with white and black people from the south? Both are typically hard working people who are more polite than folks on the west coast! Being born and raised in Oregon, I witnessed more lazy racist screwballs from north west democrats than people from the south!

You don’t know how they really view the confederate flag. In your eyes and many, it’s a symbol of hate. It’s not. Look up the evolution of flags in the confederate states of America. It was just a last stop on what was chosen. Then people do what they do best, bullshit history. If you haven’t…you should travel the south and see how much love there really is for each other. Often opinions of racism come from transplants. People in the south are some of the nicest folks. White, black, whatever.

Democrats loooove to keep black folks without knowing about rights or how to get an education too. Democrats are literally the most racist thing in this country!

The fact that it's Joe Manchin, who has authored gun control legislation in the past multiple times, eliminates any trust I might have developed for you. Manchin is a gun grabber, pure and simple. If you support him and those like him, then you're on the other side politically from any side I'd ever consider being on.

My wife, and her mother worked in fields where the beneficiaries of these programs felt self-entitled to other people's money (tax), and wanted to milk it until it was dry, both in the Medical sector, AND Retail-Grocery (Food stamps, while buying lobster, steaks, and everything but tobacco and Alcohol), with an attitude...

Low taxes:
Why should a state tax your income for just living there, is it a privlidge paying $6-$7 for a gallon of gas?!

Personal Liberty:
I personally don't care who Fruitcakes want to screw, and I think they should be able to get married,
and suffer just like normal folks. How does it really hurt me(, aside from pushing their agendas on my kids...)
