I think if I were to pick up another one to get the side gate, I’d opt for a different caliber. Probably .30-30Henry is now offering some of their levers with the loading gate. Not sure is .357 is one of them but I know the .30-30 is

You keep mentioning a JW stamp. You mean JM correct? Also a short barrel. Is it an SBR?no' i own the 38/357 cowboy rifle lever action. its bad side is its in shorter barrell .i believe this was considered a teen's rifle. it is jw stamped and will knock a deer on its butt big time!!stamped jw.

An SBR is a short barrelled rifle as defined by the ATF. If the bbl is less than 16.0" it is an SBR and you must register it with the ATF and buy a $200 tax stamp for the privilege.spr? im dumb again' whats a spr? i do know mines a short barrell.
spr isn't a thing. SBR is legally defined to be a thing that 'causes trouble with federal registration requirement messiness.spr? im dumb again' whats a spr? i do know mines a short barrell.

I believe you are describing a carbine length barrel. A carbine has a short barrel that is long enough to escape federal registration requirements.
You aren't dumb at all. Our federal registration requirements ARE dumb.
