Those are great prices. I’d be interested in test driving it at the next reunion if you don’t mind.

They received a smallish shipment of the single stacks. And they are trying to get a rear sight set-up done for me on this pistol now. With what was discussed the other day, the odds of me having it in my hand by reunion time are very, very thin. But, it is on the way.

If you run out of ammo with a 1911 it makes a good hammer to beat the SOB to death.

A few years ago, I came across a small box that had some pics in it. There was dad standing there, dead Japs all over the place on some stinking island in the Pacific. Dad wrote on the back of that pic he had gone thru 3 50 rd mags for his Thompson SMG and all of his mags for his 1911 when it turned into hand to gland. Dad had blood all over him and laying at his feet was dead Jap he beat into submission with his 1911.

    FACTS JACK!

WWII. Pacific Dead Japs 2.1-2.5 Million military

US dead TOTAL Europe, Pacific, Atlantic, Africa, Italy: 419,400 military

Bet my dad would say thank GOD he did not have a plastic pistol or a 9mm.

There's a story from WWI of that, if it's to be believed. (It's hard to know if it's legit, propaganda, or heavily embellished) shows the 1911's usefulness as a hammer. Out there floating around somewhere is a picture of a US serviceman holding a Luger. I don't remember all of the specifics, but basically two US soldiers came across a German near their lines at night. Not wanting to fire a gun in the middle of the night while exposed between two armies, they opted to beat him to death with a 1911. They knew he was probably armed, but couldn't find his handgun in the dark. The next day, one of them snuck back out there and retrieved the German's Luger for his friend.

I'd agree that the 1911 makes a fine hammer.

Your father was clearly a hero and a warrior. But I think he’d have welcomed the high capacity of a plastic 9MM over 7 rounds of .45

No one on the battlefield ever wants to run out of ammo!

    Not necessarily.
    Not necessarily?

    Really?

Because you’ve been in a gunfight or combat, ran out of bullets, and it was all good, because you had your 3 pound 1911 hammer to charge at the guy shooting at you?

    Give me a break!

Just because some of you folks have an eerie, borderline dysfunctional love affair with the 1911 and .45 ACP doesn’t mean it is better to run out of ammo with a .45 than have triple the capacity with a 9MM in a drawn out gunfight or conflict!

I have heard of (from LEO's), and read of too many instances of 9 mm not stopping the fight over the years.

And as far as civilians go, the probability of needing more than a few rounds is EXTREMELY unlikely ( a bunch of zeroes behind that decimal point probability).

Go ahead and start a caliber war if you wish. I know what self defense rounds I trust. And which rounds I do not.

And following your logic, why not just carry a .22 with even more rounds than a tupperware 9 mm?

Best reason to own a 1911? You want one. 2nd best? It was Saint Browning's final completed pistol design, and it was the daddy to the Hi Power. 3rd? They're still damn fun to shoot, and if you get one that runs right with JHP's - it can be a formidable, accurate self defense weapon.

A friend of mine, who was a LEO, carried a 1911 for much of his career, until his department switched from owned guns to issued guns. He carried that same 1911 when we were armed security monkeys.

If its a range toy, any 1911 will work. For serious business, I'd spring for something high quality that is known to run right out of the box and doesn't suffer premature parts breakage. For me, the low end of that spectrum would be a Ruger or Smith & Wesson, or Sig. I've owned cheaper 1911's before and while they shot well, I had one that suffered catastrophic failure of a MIM part, which wound up chewing up the inside of the frame and required gunsmithing to fix.

I’m not trying to start anything. Just not buying the BS.

Go back and read my first post. I was specifically addressing combat and running out of ammo. Strictly a numbers point.

1911’s are fine guns. .45 ACP is an excellent caliber. A 1911 or two or half a dozen would be a wonderful addition to any gun safe and a possible carry gun.

But like all things, they have situations where they have pros and cons.
