    Now you get it.
    No way of knowing.
Exactly. So you always play the probabilities and weight the risk.

Assume they felt there was a serious risk (which did not appear to be the case, they just shoved him to get past him from all appearances), how was pushing this old guy down and moving on eliminating the risk?

Now you get it, it was not.

Again, ask those two cops today if they felt they followed the wisest course of action. Any bets as to what they would say?

Back and forth - Back and forth - He was harmless - He posed a threat.

I'm rather (quite actually) old myself, but I would expect to be clobbered if I didn't do as an LEO directed me in a volatile situation.

So, as an elderly (gawd I hate that word) guy myself, I have zero sympathy for an old dumbass commie who injects himself into situation where he could get hurt.

    Fk him......

Arrest him for walking up? No. Excessive force? No.

This is a freak accident. The one officer barely touch him, and the other did not push back much. This was an accident caused mostly by the guy losing his balance as he was pushed by a line of cops moving forward, that he had no legal right to prevent or interfere with.
So why didn't they just arrest him? They arrested the next guy. Apparently for being past curfew. Instead they used force and were caught on camera. It's always the same, the force was caught on camera. The argument is that excessive force has always been used but there were no cameras before. I am not making that argument but that's THE argument.

The old commie had to get HIS cameraman in position for the incident he wanted to create, therefore nothing before.
Perhaps and maybe he asked the cop to push him backwards so that the world could see and perhaps he took his blood thinners so that he could get a really good skull fracture with lots of blood.
Either way, they could have just put those tie wrap cuffs on him and take him in without the push backwards. In Minneapolis the cop didn't have to knee Floyds neck either with three of them on a handcuffed guy, but they did. The video made the difference and the fact that the cops lied.

So why didn't they just arrest him? They arrested the next guy.

the old man was not violent. The second guy was clearly pushing past the cops.

it seemed to me the goal was to clear the street. Arresting everyone arrestable would result in the line having lost most of its officers in 10 yards.

this is is a non event 99.99% of the time. This .001% they guy lost his balance and was injured.

Had this been a man wearing a MAGA hat and the Portland (OR) police were involved, I expect that some would be singing a different tune. Since instead the old man was a leftist, all is fair.

Sorry your friend played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.
And who said he is my friend? I certainly did not.

But I think that when we start okaying this sort of thing because we disagree with the person's views, then we have become just as bad as the liberals.

    Enough said.

    Exactly.
You (/we) can disagree with the man and his placement, but there's no reason to shove an older man to the ground and cause such a severe injury when there's 0 threat involved. Had is been some protest for 2A on some liberal city, I assume a lot of the "hooray for blood" folks would be furious (and for a good reason..!).

I think (hope?) none of the participants of this discussion are actually happy that this man got such an injury, even if their keyboards are saying otherwise. Maybe I'm overly optimistic but I think that caring for a fellow american's well-being triumphs political arguments.

You told me to “try sarcasm” and I did.
    Commensurate with your effort:

Big difference between wanting to see someone injured, and thinking "play stupid games, win stupid prizes".

ZFG. Communists aren’t people. It chose to play a stupid game and won the prize for its participation.
