Ok here's another question: I ride a motorcycle. If I purchase a rifle, and a rifle bag, can I wear the bag with a strap and go to the range?

    Yes.

How will you carry the pistol on the motorcycle?
Do you have saddlebags, or something?

Yep, got a custom gun bag for when I lived in LA and transported my pistol.

I’m definitely going to get an LTC in the future, but it says I have to wait 6 months after being a resident. Also the dmv and dps are closed currently.

can’t wait that long to shoot some targets tho!

Yes. As a matter of fact you can have the rifle on a sling fully loaded strapped to you. Legal but not recommended. Also, the range may not let you carry a loaded rifle in until you get to your range spot. It is legal in Texas to carry a loaded long gun. I have a sub2000 which I can carry concealed in a briefcase or computer bag without a LTC but I do have one.

Welcome to the forum. What city are you in/near?

As for the bike, pistols in the saddle bags, rifle slung in a case over the shoulder won't get you a second look around most places. Law enforcement won't care unless you're wearing some type of gang (motorcycle club included) clothing.

Welcome to Texas. As has been covered, you do not need a license to carry in order to carry on or about your person in your car, or while going to and from your car and a place where you can legally carry, like a gun range.

    Google Texas Legislature> Statutes> Statutes > Penal Cofe and read 46.02 and 46.15 (b)

    Loaded matters not.

Welcome from another PRC escapee. Most of what we have to live under in the PRC does not apply here. You can do private sales without the FFL BS, buy more than one gun per month, no FSC needed, have 15 or 30 round mags, no 10 day waiting period, order ammo online rtc.

It is a wonderful place compared to...

I believe you need a LTC to carry on your person in a car. You can have the gun in a glovebox without a LTC.

Month one of Texas life, and gun ownership has went well Gents. Thanks for the encouragement. Looking forward to getting another pistol (I currently have a Glock 19,) and a rifle next. I passed my LTC online course, but cant find anyone to give me the qualification yet. I have become a member of a local gun club as well. Learning to shoot. I liken it to holding a baby bird, the less I anticipate the recoil, the more accurate my shots are. Very zen. I still miss the mark, but Im getting more bullseyes as I practice.

If you joined a gun club, ask around. I'll bet you a dollar someone that visits that gun club can do your qualification.

And if you've lived in Texas for a month and all you have to show for it is a glock 19, you're not acclimating very well. I guess we can give you a pass with all the beer flu stuff, but it sounds like it's time for you to go shopping.
