Looks great! And I’ll bet 38 Specials will feel like mouse farts out of that thing. Well done! They ain’t making them like that any more.

Thank you again for the advice on this one. Feels like I almost stole it.

I've been looking up wadcutter recipes. This project should keep me busy for a while. :)

    Thanks for the info.

I am assuming that even if the price is cheaper, that fees for shipping and FFL fees will apply, so that is to be considered?

I would also like to learn what “pinned and recessed” refers to, and the significance of that preference. I am learning a little more about this stuff every day.

The revolver thread sent me down a rabbit hole last night researching various makes of S&W .357 revolvers.

I am aware of the differences between the 27 and the 28 but considering the premium that the 27 commands these days, is it worth buying over a 28? I'm primarily looking for a shooter in good shape that I would want to keep over the long term. It seems even a 28, especially pinned and recessed, will only continue to appreciate in value.

    SQLGeek,

    I have both.

While I truly love my 3.5" Model 27, it's the ex-THP 4" Highway Patrolman that is on my belt when I go hunting/fishing/camping. = The Model 28 is "rather tired looking" after 4 decades but like a TIMEX watch, it just keeps on keeping on.
(BEST 100 bucks that I've yet spent.)

EITHER is a GREAT choice, imVho for most any job that's suitable for a handgun.

    yours, satx

Yes, that is true but depending where you buy, you may not pay taxes online. You'll need to factor in a potential credit card fee if the vendor you choose charges one (and you use one for the purchase), shipping, transfer and taxes.

Figure with the taxes the one you linked at Academy is going to be about $1,081. If you can beat that price online with the above fees included then that's the way I would go.

Yes, that's a pinned and recessed model. They are considered more desirable in the classic revolvers. You can figure out exactly what model with the dash your 28 is by looking on the inside of where the cylinder opens, same place as where the serial number is.

    SQLGeek,

Fwiw, my Model 27 wears a FANCY set of walnut grips that I bought from the famous BILL JORDAN of the USBP, when I was stationed/lived in Bossier City, LA. = DOWNRIGHT PURTY, imo.
And YEP, he signed my (1st printing) copy of NO SECOND PLACE WINNER, too.

Oh goodness, I always looked where the serial number is on the bottom of the grip! Yes, I see it’s a 28-2.

I’ve seen her M28. Its in very very nice condition.
WD, you need some classic leather for that beauty.
I did get this holster. I know it’s moved up too far to the front on my belt but I was trying to photograph it myself. Problem is it’s a right handed holster and I’m a lefty. But it’s def my BBQ setup.

Huntsville Prison museum makes some good classic leather stuff. I HAVE checked them out in person. That’s not what this holster is though.
