Can I assume that anyone concerned with a flat trajectory or retained energy is looking at the range as a training ground to help them be more confident hunters?

I don't hunt so I'm looking at it as pure target shooting. Sometimes I have to remind myself that others have a different mindset.

When I was down at the Juliff range (Bayou Rifles) this past weekend...
Was that the orientation that had to be moved from Addicks? Or were you already a member?

I've been a member for quite a while but I've never made it down to Juliff since I live all the way up in Spring.

    Correct assumption Ben.
I came from the opposite end of the spectrum. Flat and powerful meant more than bullsey accuracy.

Trees and brush are cleared out to 700 yd. Give or take.
    It's survey time.
It's also obvious I need a neighbor with a brush hog.
Dang broom weeds and spear grass are waist high.

    Any licensed applicators on here?

New member orientation was on Saturday. It was the Steel Fun Shoot on Sunday that kept me from getting to the 50 yard lanes for my second round of testing the Raptor ammo. I became a member this past March.

Since the Addicks range is still underwater I've been going down to the Juliff range to get my shooting in.

    Sorry for the thread-jack.

I'll repeat my earlier post. There is nothing to be gained or learned from launching projectiles down range at 1000 yards without feedback. Then you drive downrange to see if you hit the paper.

What makes long range shooting work, is the feed back from pit service/marking or from camera observation of some kind. You make corrections based upon conditions, shoot again and bring the points of impact on target. What works today, may not be effective tomorrow as conditions change. SO.......What is the interest level for 1000 yard shooting?

Without pit service or some type of visual feedback.......not interested.

With pit service or some type of visual feedback......Interested.

I hunt a little. I am more a student of ballistics. Also, long range shooting is fun as hell. The social aspect is nice too.

I'm a bit of both. I absolutely love to hunt and shoot, particularly long range. The love of shooting long range has by far extended my effective hunting ranges as far as comfortable shots go. Last hunting season I had a few shots taken over 500yds with success, granted I did carry my 16lb comp rifle but I fire it the most so it's the most familiar.

There's something special about having enough time to think you missed before hearing the steel ring.

I suspect my ability to hit anything out to 500 yards is marginal at best, but to me, trying is where the fun is. I'm just about more interested in the social aspect.

Farthest I've shot is 600. It really wasn't too bad.

500 was a bitch though, lol.

Got a lane punched through to the last tree line.
Out to about 900 yd. Needs a bit of widening, but the line of sight is there.
Also gotta cut back some canopy. Mesquite dont grow up. They grow out.

Resizing some pics so they'll post.

    Last tree line.
Those trunks are 18" or more in diameter.
Bobcat ain't gonna knock those down.
