Everything. I simply carry everything in my truck.

This list includes most everything listed above including:

    200' of chains
    150' of ratchet straps
    100 extra gallons of diesel
    Tire spoons
Truck already has on board air
    Gas generator
    Shovels

Of course, like me, my truck isn't "normal".

I carry an air compressor, Tire Iron, bottle jack and a small tool bag with misc tools, fuses and extra headlights. I drive a lot in S Tex and the roads are rough. The stock jacks never excite me.

There are some things I'm missing, shoes and socks I never thought of but a great idea.

Now, what would you want your 18 year old daughter off to college, living away from home (outside the range where she can call daddy) for the first time to have?

    The wife?

    Son?

Map of the areas they are traveling. Means of self defense. Sense to not drive long distances at night.

One of those 2AA chargers you can charge a cell phone with.

    Water is underrated (and heavy).

I take a vehicle bag, random stuff in the truck, and a small backpack that doubles as my personal travel bag and minimalist BOB.

I have most of the things already mentioned, other stuff I can think of:

    fishing pole and tackle box
    Stanley power station
    extension cord
    zip ties
bungee cords and all kinds of rope and string
    life straw/sawyer squeeze
cheap walkie talkie (not that important, but ya never know)
kukri knife (more durable than machete, can chop wood)
Bunch of folding knives, a particular Gerber is my favorite
    USAF survival knife
    bayonet
food and water (depending on where I'm going)
    batteries, extra phone batteries
    extra sunglasses
    pop sickle sticks
    tarps/tent canopy, tent stakes
    swimming goggles
Scott blue shop towels (can do anything with these)
    old shirt
    extra clothes
emergency blanket, old quilts and blankets
    glass bottles
bunch of plastic grocery bags (can do anything too)
scissors (one of the best inventions ever)

Most of this stuff I actually use on a daily basis and for work

This seems like just another in a series of probing questions about the habits and practices of the members of this board.
    Meaning?
Mechanix gloves go on sale this time of year. Chemlights are good. Leatherman tool as well.
Chem lights, like that idea. Do they have an shelf life? Or can they be stored for a really long time?
I'm a pack rat, so I have a lot of things except flares for some reason. What I need is organization. This thread will help.
Organization is key to me. I have a car and a truck and both have bags, but both have things the other doesn't. Need to get then the same (except for vehicle specific items)
Jumper cables, LED hazard triangles, tire plug kit, mini air compressor, flashlight, ice scraper.
Tire plug kit, how easy are those for an everyday person to use?

Id say chemlights in their foil packs should be good for a few years. This Texas heat is no joke and will be hard on all your stuff you store in the car.

Regarding water...id rotate the pretty frequently due to the same.

    always some bottled water.
That's a good point. I always have bottled water in the truck, but rarely have it in the car unless I'm traveling. I should mthrow a couple in the car as well even though the AO of the car is never really more than a few min from a convienace store.

    Leatherman tool as well.
You mean you don't carry that on your person? If you have a "car bag", just throw some pliers and a few screwdrivers in there. The real thing is more functional than a multitool.

    In my truck:
100% of the time - GHB (water, fire, shelter, MREs, etc.), Jumper cables, cam buckle straps, 50/50 coolant mix, bug spray, sunscreen
98% of the time (rarely taken out, used for work) - Tool bag (impact driver, wrenches, zip ties, screwdrivers, etc.)
95% of the time - Maxpedition diaper bag, ratchet straps, empty cooler, fleece sweater/jacket
50% of the time - NorthFace type jacket, fleece cap, convertible mittens (folding chairs, this is the 50% they aren't in there — usually trade them out for jacket/gloves when it starts getting cooler)

Thinking out loud. Keep what tools you desire where you desire them.
