True story. If you want to buy crack, one of the easiest places to buy is within line of sight of APD Headquarters. They do seem to let that go. Could it be that jaywalkers on campus can actually pay the associated fine, and the throngs of homeless dope peddlers can not?

You're right, that completely mitigates this girl of any responsibility for her actions. No matter her childish they may have been or how easily she could have avoided this outcome.

A few days ago, a woman jogging on Guadalupe Street near the University of Texas at Austin was stopped by police for jaywalking and then arrested for failure to provide ID.

Texas is NOT a stop/ID state.

Thus you can't legally be arrested for failure to provide ID if you are not engaged in a licensed activity.

If the citation is a lawful arrest, then you must given name/address/dob. You do not have to give physical ID. If it is not a lawful arrest, then no.

And don't forget those "performance expectations" to keep the rank and file in line with goals set by politicians.

That said, the girl's actions make her like a typical whiny little bitchy-bitch bitch. But that is beside and beyond the point of...why were the cops there writing $125 tickets? Were all the other unsolved crime in The City (Oh, The City)...solved? Most jurisdictions don't respond to vehicle accidents anymore, don't respond to burglary/break-ins...but plenty of time to write...jaywalking...tickets?

Youve lost me. You're estimating that each officer is writing a dozen tickets an hour, with 6 hours on site, so a total of 144 tickets a day, correct?

Most jurisdictions don't respond to vehicle accidents anymore, don't respond to burglary/break-ins...

LOL! That's hilarious. The businesses are one of the biggest reasons cops were there. The Ped and bikes screw up traffic and make it a place many people avoid. The cops were responding to complaints from the businesses. Kudos on the continued fat shaming by the way.

Whatever side you're on, one thing is for sure: This whole thing was a terrible idea for the fact alone it makes APD look very bad. Whether what they did was legal or not this is a PR disaster for them and there's no way they're going to come out looking good in the eyes of most people.
